    picture #5000

I knew I was creeping up on the #5000 shot - didn't realize it would come so quickly as I have only had my camera since early last august. A couple weeks ago we went out to my nieces T-ball game and was glad to see that #5000 was of her  and not used on something I was just messing around with. I know I have about 1400 shots on it before I set it to continuously count without resetting.

yes, the summer is a time to get out there and start photographing. whats the expected shutter life on the d50? Is it around 50,000?

Ditto with my D200. I know I shot at least 1000 frames before I set it to read continuously. I'm now in the 14,000 frame range with it. And I've had it since May 2006.

Congrats on hitting your 5000 mark, and you got a great shot for that milestone.

Adina and Speed - Thanks for the comments! I was pleasantly surprised when I seen this was 5000

It is just amazing how quickly the shots add up - never gave much thought to shutter life. Over the weekend on the way home from our day trip we talked about it and just realize that if I don't have an upgrade by the time it stops working, I will upgrade then. I have some glass on the list before a body:thumbsup:

Cute shot. Now I'll have to figure out how to find out how many shots I've taken.

If I'm not mistaken, you can only check if you have Continuous Numbering on, and if then, just check the number on the last picture you took. :O

Don't worry as the Nikon D-80 and D-70 both have electronic Shutters so why would they not use an electronic shutter on the D-40 and D-50? Mechanical shutters are so costly!

    Re: picture #5000

frog - thanks - I am still amazed how fast the # of shots goes up / I am already pushing 6000 / probably this weekend

jixline - as Tel stated - I have the continuous counter on so it keeps counting where it left off and doesn't reset - or you can start counting

freygr - still something to be concerned with as sooner or later the shutter will fail - say the D50 does go to 50k shots - thats alot of shots but still will get here rather quickly (much faster than if I were shooting film) - I am sure the higher end cameras have better components for a less likely hood of failure - as brent said he has over 105k already - I did a search and it seems like the d50 will fail on an average around 30k - 50k

Rick - thanks !! wow I thought I was taking alot of shots !! but you have better weather year round - I didn't get out much in the winter -
