PhotoSynth - what do you think?

    Microsoft Live Labs Photosynth
Photosynth takes a large collection of photos of a place or object, analyzes them for similarities, and displays them in a reconstructed 3-dimensional space.

It's only a .wmv demonstration but the technology is so cool I want it NOW

Re: PhotoSynth - what do you think?

This is indeed an intense technology. The modeling theories behind this have been around and demo'd for years. Let's see if MS can come up with a decent interface and enough real world application to make it viable. The one area where something similar has been used is in detailed satellite image and side scan radar image reconstruction.

The MS stuff though hopefully could be used with images that are from different sources and don't require 'tags' to orient them but use inherent data clues (like panoramic software) to build the relationships.

Sigh, more big (powerwise anyway) processors to hang in rack.
