Photography news you may have missed - Dec'08

Famed model Bettie Page, pin-up queen, and yes she appeared in Playboy, died December 12, 2008 at age 85 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

    Betty Page story - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7778963.stm

Dorothea Lange in early 1936 made a photograph of a migrant worker in the Dustbowl while working for one of the New Deal agencies that became an icon of American B/W photography. The Great Depression era photo know usually as 'Migrant Mother' generated this recent story about the effect it had on the children and their future.

    Lange photo story - http://www.cnn.com/2008/LIVING/12/02...oto/index.html

And Finally, Polaroid has filed for bankruptcy again. This time it is being reported from malfeasance or the like from some investor/owner/financier of the current Company. No link, as a quick Internet (Google, Yahoo etc) search for Polaroid Bankruptcy should bring several even more recent stories.

I had heard about Betty Page but hadn't seen the Lange photo story.

Did you know you can download uncompressed tiffs of Migrant Mother?

That's sad news about Bettie Page.

    She was an American icon.
