My wife got me a subscription to Popular Photography. It's ok I guess in that it's a typical magazine. Most of the material is available online anyway. In general, I think you'll fien higher quality information in the forums here at PR.

If you're looking for something to read on the john or on the train.... Pop Photo isn't bad.

Not sure what you primarily shoot but, I like Outdoor Photographer a lot.

Thanks for the tips, I think I may purchase a few at the news stands first. Magazines are magazines got me thinking, nice covers and probably more adds then anything.

Exactly. And.... if you're happy with your camera and equipment right now, I guarantee you won't be after a few issues. Nothing drives upgradeitis like seeing all the ads and "Top 10 You'll Die Without It!" reviews.

Now, excuse me while I pine away over that 1D.... :cryin:

You forgot the photographer who thinks the latest and greatest will make him/she the next "Ansel Johnston" or an other Famous Photographer

I have read most of them at one time or another, but the only two I really read anymore are Photo Techniques and Nikon World. Photo Techniques is very technical and covers both film/darkroom and digital but doesn't do much on the artistic side. Nikon World is like buying one big advertisement, but I really like their feature articles of different photographers and samples of their works. Reproduction quality is very good, too.

But Johnstone and Adams aren't even close. Or is there another Ansel I've never heard of?

I have subscriptions to Pop Photo and Outdoor Photographer. All Pop Photo is is a catologue of all the new stuff and the reviews. I'm dropping it after this subscription runs out as I don't find it worthwhile. Much of the info is available at popphoto.com anyway and is free. I think OP is the best photo magazine around if you are looking for photography. OP does have reviews of some equipment but they are few and far between. Their orientation is photograqphy and not equipment.

You can do a search in google for photography magazines and will come up with a batch of them, mostly on line. American photo is part of PopPhoto and shares the same web site. I understand that Amateur Photography ( british ) is a very good mag, you might want to check it out. I think it is a weekly.

NewD80User, your thoughts about buying a few off the stand and checking them out is spot on IMHO. That way you will be able to see for yourself which gives you useful information and which do not. :D

Personally, I subscribe to Outdoor Photographer because I shoot mostly landscape and wildlife, and to Photolife because it is Canadian and it is the only way to keep up with what is happening in Canada.
