    Phil
Phil is a retired WWII veteran, and a member of the Military Preservation Society. He stands in front of his Vietnam-era MA80 ambulance before the start of a parade that he and other WWII vehicles are participating in. Really nice guy, loves to talk about the Jeeps and the trucks.

I like the symmetry between the slightly cut off elbow on the left and slightly cut off cross on the right (seriously, it works). Some day you have to do a display of your environmental portraits!

    Is his last name Flash?

    Hahahaha ooh ee ahh... anyway

Seriously I think some fill is the only thing that could improve this photo. Nice shot and story!

    Thanks guys.

Rick, I have really grown to hate fill flash. I'd rather deal with too much contrast. :)

I like it. It has a gritty Americana feel to it IMO.

No, I hate fill flash because it does the exact opposite of what I want to do with light, it destroys all modeling of the face. For this shot, none of his wrinkles would have been nearly as visible, and that would have ruined it.

Just like a man, to think that people want their wrinkles visible.

Your recent post have been really great, this one is no exception

Depends on how much fill we're talking about here. I agree with Walterick (although it didn't occur to me until he pointed it out) and feel that -2.5 of fill would have improved the shot without affecting the wrinkles negatively. It would have made his face stand out for from the tones of everything else. It's great as is, just think some tiny fill would have helped. Maybe when rick said "fill" you were thinking a lot more light than I'm envisioning.
