From a Peace Vigil...

I have always liked going to rallies and vigils, no matter the cause, it's interesting to see what people think about the various causes there are, and it makes for some great photography.
Sometimes I go to be apart of the event, because I believe in the cause.

So anyway, there was a Candle Light Peace Vigil here recently so I went along and brought my rangefinder with me...

I'd say there were about 300 people or so that lined about about 100 yards of Liberty Park here in Salt Lake City that night.

All politics aside, nice photographs Brian! Very journalistic. I, too, like shooting rallies and such. If you're ever in Santa Barbara, it's not too difficult to find one, LOL.

BTW, I appears to me lighting was just a tad difficult. What speed film did you use?

Yeah these were shot from about 800PM to 900PM, on the east side of a street.
Film was Tri-X, exposed at 400. I should have pushed it, but just didn't?!

One of those times that a slow synch shutter and flash couldn't hurt. Nice shots. If you pushed to 640 or 800 it would have helped a little, with just a little grain enhancement. Probably looked even more 60's ish. The photojournalism from the 60's and early 70's is what made me want to be a photographer.

Wow, very journalistic shots! I'm intrigued by the lighting in the second and third shots. Were you using an off camera flash? It looks like some interesting lighting that doesn't appear (to me anyway) to be coming from your camera.

I don't own a strobe, so the light is a combination of the natural light, candles and headlights from the cars going by.

Good job! I like the way you got in close to the individuals, rather than try to shoot the whole demo. It works well that way.

Paul,
All of these were done with the 25, but I did use the 35 as well that night.
The 25 has a TON of depth of field, you can't not get a good sharp photograph, all of these were done at f/4.
I think my Holga experience has paid off, when it comes to guessing distance.
