    October Thread #1: Baseball playoffs

You know, this site really could use a cafe area. You know, a place to discuss things OTHER than photography. While some may like to escape these extrenious area's that appear on other forums, the fact is that one can choose to ignore them. But, that is another matter all together. On to the fun stuff.

I am a huge baseball fan. If I had to choose between never seeing a baseball game again, or never picking up a camera again, I hate to say it, but the camera would go. The high's and lows of a season, the subtleties of each game, the second guessing of a manager -- it all brings so much joy. Well, I'm a Red Sox fan, so pain is a huge part of it!

So, here's the so called "Official Baseball Playoff Thread". I have some questions for those who are interested.

    1) Which team is your favorite team?
    2) Which team are you following in the playoffs?
    3) Which team is your "nemesis"?

Mine is obvious. Red Sox, Red Sox and Yankees. I LOVE being part of this rivalry. It's invigorating However, I am going to follow the Houston Astro's closely as well. I put $20 down on them in Vegas back at the beginning of the season and I stand to win $180 if they take it all!

As for the Sox, a nice game for them today. I was very concerned about the Angel's but damn, Shilling is simply amazing. throw in some major screw ups by the Angle's and you have a game one win! Tonight, I'm monitoring Yankee's/Twins. Go Twinkee's!

    1) Red Sox
    2) Red Sox
    3) Yankees

    Shhhhhh - I'm NY born & raised!

Acutally I'm not an avid baseball fan, but my roommate all of a sudden is and she "loves" the Yankees, so I of course have to be contrary and like the Red Sox. Plus my man Stephen King is a huge Red Sox fan, and I trust him.

And the Red Sox sweep and move on to the next round. BRING ON THE YANKEES!

Under my breath: "Not the Yankees. Please not the Yankees. Not another devistating end to the season at the hands of the Yankees!"

    Astros!!

I'm Astros all the way!!! I was born and raised in Houston, lived there for 32 years. I've been through it all with those guys, and though they win alot of division titles, it's been all pain come playoff time.
They have a 2-1 series lead on the Braves, with Clemens going tommorow.
Here's hoping the baseball gods have mercy on them (and us fans) this year.

No kidding... as long as I don't find myself on my knees with my head in my hands and Pedro still on the mound like last year.
    THAT was heartache!

Let's hope for better results this year!

I am but a simple gringo. I just wanted to make sure Pedro could read it...

Oh, and I want to make it clear that I am NOT one of those obnoxious New Yorkers that constantly berates Sox fans.

Well, ok, maybe I am a little, but in truth, I actually like a lot of the Sox players. Well, at least a few...

    Well, Damon's kinda cool... ;)

Ah, the beauty of a rivalry! You have to admit, we do have quite a bit of spunk on the team. Although I love the fact that the Sox experiment with their facial hair, I tend to think that Johnny's beard may slow him down a bit (he's still damn fast though).

On to a few more nights of fun! ;)

Well, game one was a perfect exapmle...

...of how great this series has been.

One second, my brothers and I are high fiving, enjoying the Yanks coasting along on Moose's perfect game and an eight-run lead, the next moment we're on the edge of our seats with EVERY PITCH sweating out a close one after that amazing Boston comeback.

Trust me, Yankee fans do not relax much at all during these games regardless of the score, because we know you guys never give up.

We wouldn't want to have it any other way... ;)

I live with a red sox fan, and a hardcore yankess fan. Their rooms are decorated with team colors and i am somehow caught in the middle. The packers aren't playing, and Cornell University hockey hasn't started yet so I have no emotion in the matter. The nightly ritual of seperating one housemate to the living room and the other upstairs is getting tiresome, but the 70-200 has been fun to catch the yankess fan with his face buried in hands :-) Maybe I should skip town tonight?

Serously, if you are not a Yankees fan or a Red Sox fan, you can't grasp the depth of this rivalry. My two boys are already deep into the brainwashing process

If I were you, I would get out of the house and enjoy the game at a bar. It will be safer.

Big Red hockey, 'eh? They were incredibly good two years ago. I did not pay much attention last year. I have season tickets to UNH hockey so I was definitely interested in Cornell during the NCAA's a couple of years ago.

    LETS GO RED

Big red hockey is the only team that I will get real fired up about. If you have ever taken a trip down to Lynah Rink you know how serious cornell students are about our hockey. We wait in line 60 hrs for tickets, and not jsut the good seats, if u aren't in that line there is no way you are getting tickets. And what other fans will pelt Hahvahd (sucks) with fish? Just us. Any player on any opposing team knows that we know more ways to make fun of him then the rest of the ECAC combined, and we love it. Yes, hockey is a glorious thing.

The ECAC is a real toss up this year. Cornell looked a bit slow but big, with the officials putting double digit penalty time on the boards for obstruciton type calls we will really see a different game. Despite that, Cornell is consistently a performing team and we've got some dedicated players. Its too bad that the Ivy League can't start play till what... 3 weeks after everyone else?

PHOTO CONTENT: I will try to get me and my camera a press pass and bring you some shots from my new lens. :-)

Thus concludes my cornell hockey rant.

Being from the Bay Area you might expect me to be a Giants or A's fan, but I left my heart in Boston one summer, and the predilection has stuck with me ever since. My one Bay Area favorite however, is Cal Berkeley. And what with being a Cal fan, Stanford is of course the archnemisis of a nemisises . And Cal is not doing to bad this year, GO BEARS!!!

My hat's off to DA SOX... :)

When a team stages the most dramatic comeback in sports history, I think you need to chalk it up to fate. I'm a little numb at this point, but life goes on... ;)

    Good luck in the series!

Oh, one more thing, Soxheads. Don't think you're gonna make a habit of this. Enjoy it while you can..

Wanna know why they won? I watched parts of the first 3 games and the Sox lost. So I vowed and made promises to my friends that I wouldn't watch, listen, peek or nuthin after that! My instructions from friends and family now are to go hide while the world series games are playing. Sheesh!

In the past day there is one quote from the announcers that I don't think will ever get old: "The Red Sox have won the Pennant!"
I was 5 years old the last time this happened... and don't think i have been able to wipe a smile off my face for the past 2 days now. Thank god we had a few days rest though, as I was becoming quite the insomniac, not being able to sleep after the games!

Can't wait for game 1 tomorrow night!

    Go Sox!
