    OM 50mm 1.4 hummingbird..
    Greetings,

New/old OM 50mm f1.4 arrived today and I was testing the f stops...

I set up a feeder a week or so ago but everytime I noticed a bird feeding and headed towards the camera, they would bolt...

I just happened to already be at the camera/tripod putting the CF card back in and along comes this guy... didn't even have time to try f2 or f2.8. Oh well, next time, eh?

f1.4, 1/2000, iso 100 and full afternoon sunlight on his back...

    Thanks Dave,

I was a little concerned about shooting at f 1.4, from all I've read this lens performs better between f 2.0 and f 6.0ish...

In this case though, I do think the DOF is a little too shallow but that's where I had it set when this opportunity presented itself.

With a little more experience shooting this lens I'll have a better feel for what to expect.

I also was concerned I would have trouble with the manual focus, older eyes you know, but I'm not sure if spending five times the money for a ZD with AF is worth it :)

    Cheers, Don

great capture, they're difficult to catch, and excellent work with the 50mm, that must've been difficult to not scare her away. How close were you?

I have the tripod set up about five feet from the feeder.

If I am standing there I am pretty well ignored but, if I have to move towards the camera they are gone... don't have the time or the patience to just stand there waiting..

About half the time they feed on the other side, this time I got lucky :)

This is the original image, uncropped, unprocessed and resized...
