    OK Nikon Samuari's!
So the other group photographers with this "so called camera" has come up with a name of their own and a logo too.
So I think we should come up with a logo too.
We were first in organizing ourselves.
So I challenge all of you Nikon Samuari's to come up with a logo for us!

Samurai's are known for being warriors. So, is there an artist in the group?
My artwork consists of stick people, which is why I photograph and don't draw or paint!
    :-O

    Something cool.
Something that represents the warrior spirit.
Something that shows what it means to be Nikon Samurai.

That makes you confused! (And me too for that matter)

Why, pray tell, do you own both?

I have met one photographer who used both. Met him at an airshow. He used a Nikon F5 for the bulk of his photography (with a 500mm f4 on a Wimberly head), but he used a Canon EOS 3 for handheld subjects because Nikon's old VR technology wasn't up to Canon's IS. I must admit, I'm curious if he's still using both, or if he sold his Canon gear to buy some of the new Nikon VR lenses.

But I digress. Please, do tell us why you have both.

(You can sell those Canon thingies on Ebay you know.) :-O

Hey Arctirus - I think we should start our own club! :D Uh oh, now I'm in trouble with both...

I'm mostly a Nikon shooter but also have a old Canon rangefinder. Nikon did make rangefinders a long time ago (and recently re-released them as collector's items) but they're a little pricey. My Canon is a poor man's Leica...

99% of my shooting is with my 20D (and formerly digital rebel) but I still have my good 'ole Nikon FM around for the occasional black and white film shots.

I love my 20D with all my heart and couldn't part with it yet at the same time I just don't feel like a "real" photographer without something that says "Nikon" on it in my hand. However the D70 wasn't even a consideration when for my latest purchase; it can't come close to my 20D.

OK, my green canon logo is gonna get laughed off of this thread, but in the spirit of friendship and camaraderie (as we Irish are known for, heh heh), I'd like to put forth my idea of what your logo should look like.

Ours is Irish. I'm seeing yours as Asian (of course). Whereas ours has the clover, I think yours should have a Japanese character (kanji symbol) in strong calligraphy overlaid on a sword. The Character should be encircled with ... um ... a circle, like ours, and the words around the circle should say Nikon Samurai. I'm seeing it as a black or dark brown logo, or possibly black and red.

    Am I creative, or what?

    :-D

Actually, with the two logos looking different but sharing the same basic structure, I envision it symbolizing our unity of spirit and purpose.

Experience is not a requirement to be a Nikon Samurai. Neither is longevity on this site. Love of your Nikon gear, THAT is what makes you a Nikon Samurai. And apparently, you qualify! Would you like to be Nikon Samurai #15?

Aha! I knew there was still good in you. :-) Somehow, I knew sensed that you were Nikon to the core. I've seen others go to Canon, for various reasons. Some think Canon is better technically. Some think Canon provides better tech support. Some like that the Canon gear is slightly cheaper than Nikon - at the consumer level. (Digital Rebel = $899, D70 = $999).

Top of the line Canon glass is definitely cheaper than Nikon. Canon 600mm f4 = $7200, Nikon 600mm f4 = $9000. Quite a difference. Then again, some think the Nikon glass is worth it. I don't claim to know. I do not, and in all probability, will not, ever buy a 600m f4 lens.

What I like best about Canon is that they make Nikon bring down their prices, and get serious with their new products. The D100 was $2000, until the 10D showed up, then it dropped to $1500. Nikon seemed content to have just the D100 as their consumer level camera, until the Digital Rebel showed up. But when Nikon responded with the D70, I was very impressed! The D70 was the first digital camera to truly impress me.

For me, it's about ergonomics. I love the way my Nikons feel in my hands. The controls are so logical in their placement and function. Shooting with a Nikon is so intuitive and so natural, that it makes shooting with one a piece of cake. I can concentrate on composition, and exposure, and not where is that blasted control is that I'm looking for.

Didn't mean to write an epistle, but it's nice to know that you do appreciate Nikon's like the Samurai's do!

I was hoping for one that was a little more... animated? Like a picture of a samurai with a sword and a camera round his neck or something. Damn, if I could draw I would bust it out here but I don't think my first grade stick figures would do my imagination any good!

I'd vote for this one though if everyone else agrees.

It's not far enough from the original to warrant being my own either. I guess we'll have to wait for one of the Nikon Samurais to take a picture like this so we can manipulate it!
