Tried the D60 at the zoo

I finally got a chance to shoot with the "new" D60. Hit the zoo with a friend to teach him how to use his new camera, a 20D. Keep in mind this was a shakedown for me, so I didn't bother with a tripod or anything fancy. All pics were shot with the D60 and a Sigma 400/5.6 APO (which wouldn't work on the 20D, btw!), or Sigma 18-55. I haven't really played with them yet in Photoshop other than a little curve adjustment here or there. I know I can get that gorilla a little clearer.

On my monitor they look dark, and flat.
What do the histograms look like?
What colour space did you use?
I'm wondering why they look like this at my end of the wire.

My monitor at home has been pretty well calibrated and they appear bright and vivid there... but the one at work (here now) they look like crap.

I forget the name of it but the space is AdobeRGB1998 something? Haven't checked the histograms but can look at them when I get home.

I have a calibrated monitor here at home, they look dark and flat. If you are posting them as aRGB then that is wrong for the web, you should be converting them to sRGB or using save for the web if using Adobe products.

Hmm. Ok, just to experiment, how does the image below look? I know I never saved it for the Web either, though I should have. I've printed pretty much straight from PS and the photos have come out well, so I guess the sRGB would be the problem here.

Much better than the others. Certainly not as dark.

The other issue I notice with the others, is White Balance. If you take it into Photoshop and use the jumping deer/what ever it is. Using Adjust Curves and use the hightlighter eye dropper and then click on the white of the animal near the tail, watch what happens to the picture.

The histograms on all the photos, show under exposure.

    Thanks, Peter, I'll try that.

The gorilla is a little underexposed but the chimps are good. The running buck (forget what critter it is now) needs some work in PS so I'll try what you said. Looks like I'll learn something new about PS by the time we're done here. That's a good thing
