off-camera flash

Probably cheating.
I took these frames from video shot with the 1D-X in almost no light.

Yes, I know I need to work on the focus, but for that I need a bigger monitor to see the focus, or a miraculous AF system that can focus on dark subjects against a dark background.

Has anyone looked into a follow focus rig for the electronic focus lenses?
Once you twist the lens focus ring past infinity or minimum distance, the direct relationship between focus ring position and actual focus is lost. So to work the FF control has to have end stops on the action.
Not only that, but if the relationship between focus ring and MF position is not linear then you can't accurately focus from the follow focus knob at all.
Anyone actually tried it?

So, you bought the 1D X or was this a rental? Do you love it? I do :)

Unfortunately, I absolutely cannot afford one :(

I love it, oh yes.
By selling all my old gear, and the promotional cashback, it lessened the impact on the wallet.
Still expensive though.
Comparing it to the 1DmkIV is interesting, the difference in the menus, button placements, AF settings - not worth double the price objectively, but the 1DX is so much nicer to use than the 1DmkIV.
But I'm wondering if there is a 1DXmkII or something in the pipeline with the new PDAF on-sensor dual pixel system to improve the video AF.
There is no good time to buy a new camera :(

I was just having that same discussion with someone today. I fully expect to see that technology trickle up into the full-frame cameras. However, I wouldn't expect to see it until sometime next year - maybe Photokina?

Where did you do the pictures? Looks like the Cotswolds..

The rumors have the next full frame Sony with the DSLR form coming out next year as mirrorless, so either they have something completely different up their sleeve or the main sensor PDAF better than it is now.

Has anyone tried the Canon 70D main sensor AF? They still have a separate PDAF sensor for stills, but that may be just because of the OVF.
