Well if we are all going to have our own respective clans, then we have to start a Leica one too. I know Tuna uses a IIIf or something. Who else?

That was truly a quote for the ages. bravo *applause*

Canon Ninjas, eh? It goes perfectly with the oriental/mideival/martial arts/slap in your face cool theme that the nikon users have set forth. I like it. I like it a lot. I shall add it to the list.

    Canon Clan
    Clan de Canon
    Canon Zealot
    Canon Cult
    Canon Ninja

In fact, I think I like it the most so far.

But I'd also be worried that they'd take away from the exiting forums. That's not necessarily the case. But it could happen. I'd actually like to have manufacturer-specific forums, if we can support them. But if they're going to be empty, then I'd rather not.

Maybe the best thing to do, is if you're interested in having a Canon or Nikon club here, just get it started on your own - informally. When you can come to me and tell me that you have a bunch of participants, I'll start thinking about creating a special forum for you. Does that sound ok?
Fred Miranda's site has Canon and Nikon specific forums that are very active, but my personal take is that such forums tend to be devisive. On the other hand, platform specific help is more readily sought and solutions found.

Personally I think it would be a step in the wrong direction to have manufacture specific forums. One of the beauties about this website is the informality of the site, where it does matter what cameras one uses, experience is shared by many to many irrespective.

The Nikon Samurai Club to me has always been a bit of a "Tounge in Cheek" sort of thing started by certain people that has snowballed a little recently.

We don't need any more forums.

Re: Nikon Samurai??? Where's the clan for Canon?

Okay, since some people aren't quite getting it, for the record:

Ryguyinlj's intent on creating this thread was not to advocate the creation of any more forums here. It was to get people to have some fun joining in on the good-natured and humorous banter that the NIkon users have engaged in by calling themselves "Samurais." The only person who put forth the idea of new brand-specific forums was Photo-John, who misunderstood Ryguyinlj's intent, and has said so, effectively ending any debate on whether there will be new forums.
This thread is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, but with people repeating the incorrect idea that new forums might happen, the humor just might drain from the whole thing. I would really hate to see that happen, since we're all friends here.

Oh, and as for war between Samurais and Ninjas- it wouldn't be a battle, it would be a massacre! ;)

    Yes. Exactly.

It's all good humored. It's not as if I dislike Nikon or any other brand, I just like to have some pride in my tools and maybe have some fun with it at the same time.

and no, I never mentioned creating specific forums. I learn a lot on these boards from people all over the world that use all types of gear. I would be shutting myself off from learning from their tecniques and perspectives if I were to only mingle with people that use similar gear that I do.

Re: Nikon Samurai??? Where's the clan for Canon?

well this is an interesting thread but what about minolta?im sure there are alot of minolta folks out there.and should we stick with the asian/mideveil theme?or branch out to other idea's? and also i think the names should have an association with the camera,ie:Nikon-a pristegious weapon (if you will)and the weilder's have a set code of ethics.(woo! this is fun)

    so we have.

    Nikon-Samurais
    Cannon- Ninja's (possibly)
    Minolta-
    Leicia-

please let all the idea's flow

It is nice to belong, and I thought I belonged to the grup of users here on the forums, not to a particular clan.

I think separate areas for manufacturers might be divisive, if you want the "my hammer's better than yours" attitude there are plenty of single make forums elsewhere.

Having said that, while the NIkon Samurai definitely have a presence, the rest of us outnumber them

Well, it's not like Canon has much to brag about these days! But talking about camera loyalty, I have a Fuji, and I know I'm greatly out numbered on these boards.

I always understood it to be just a label for our signatures, nothing else.

While I think Canon Rebels is clever, I think I like Canon Ninjas better, if only because of the impassioned description that Outdoorsman gave it. Great sales pitch, Outdoorsman!

Re: Nikon Samurai??? Where's the clan for Canon?

Hey, thanks, Kelly! I hoped another of the W.N. people (that's Word Nerd) would appreciate the effort I put into it. I was really trying hard to imagine a fight between a samurai and a ninja, and of course, the ninja won in like 1.2 seconds. Personally I'm not a Rebel. You have to belong to something first to then rebel against it.
And also I must admit, there's an old Vivitar in my arsenal that sees a few rolls now and then, as well as a new (used) Ricoh p&s that is proving itself quite well. Canon is my "modern" system, but why limit yourself to only one weapon, I say.
Same goes for my real weapons, too. Having only two guns really bugs me. ;) But then again, I don't exactly live in the inner city. The biggest fear we live in here is having the winds blow the manure smell our way.
I did a quick image search on Yahoo! and this one caught my eye...

Dude as I am sure Rob(nikon geek one) can tell you ONE is all you need, though we have you beat I own 40 cal, 45, 380 auto, 50cal, 50BMG(sold one, bought one), 308(new), 223(new)....... WHY I can't explain SERIOUSLY, but boy are they pretty

I have no desire to harm anyone, but guns are just beautiful TOOLS in my humble opinion.

AND NO I will NOT post images of them, so don't even ask

Man...you guys gotta have some action here!
If you want to start a canon ninja thing, then hurry up and stick it by your name.
Dont just talk about it and have no action, especially if you are a supporter of one name.

Hey Leica folks, let me know you guys wanna stick something on your signature. I'm down.
