    Night Portraits

I had a call from my oldest daughter a couple of days ago, "Mum, can you come over at 8pm and shoot some night portraits for us? We need to use one on a poster for a gig we are doing on Saturday". (My daughter and her friend do a Johnny Cash Tribute).

So off we go to a cobbled street in town using only a street light for my lighting

Ben LOVES dramatic lighting, he wanted B&W and he doesn't mind grain (easy job for me with high ISO's). The perfect client lol.

By the way these were hand held because my tripod got on my nerves lol. And I used my 50mm 1.8.

ALL shot in Manual mode, ISO 800, SS 1/25, F/2.8
The only editing done were conversions to warm B&W's.

Would love to know what you think of the shots I got. I'm pretty pleased with them.

    Re: Night Portraits

These are fine shots, Alison, as usual. I appreciate your work - and learn a lot from you. My time for photography is limited so I try to get the best I can out of the camera - without the bells and whistles. Your photos are my inspiration many times.

Oh - and I love Johnny Cash! This must be a really fun event for your daughter and her friends to be involved in. Nice subjects here.

Those are nice shots. I like the lighting and how the last one is framed the best. The first one to me needs to be cropped closer. Great job, Jeff

    Outstanding as usual.

One thing I like about these is the gritty nature which goes with the Johnny Cash character.

Very nice. Hope the event goes well.

Very nice Allison. I agree that the framing of the last shot works particularly well. BW with grain suits a Johnny Cash theme perfectly!

The third shot just looks like it would belong as a poster outside of a theater.

    Thank you all so much.
I didn't realise when I shot these that it was coming up for the anniversary of Johnny's death, September 12th 2003.

Well I've been out of the loop for a few days and missed this thread Ali. I think they are just fabulous. You truly are the Queen of the Portrait around here. I'm sure Johnny wouldn't have minded all of us paraphrasing some of his best lyrics.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Thanks everyone.
If anyone is interested, here's a little clip of them singing Forty shades of Green. Unfortunately, you can't see them. I am hoping to get a better clip of them soon.
