New TSA rules for flying with DSLR?

I was watching Photoshop User TV today and Scott Kelby mentioned a new TSA rule for people traveling with DSLR's. He said he was asked to remove his camera from the bag, and place it in a plastic bin to go thru the X-ray machine. I think this rule was originally for video cameras, but now it's for DSLR's as well. Just a warning to those traveling, keep a close eye on your gear!

You can read about his experience, and what others had to say about it on his blog.

This is not a new rule, just some airports misinterpreting the old video camera rule. This was recently discussed on the Sportsshooter.com forums.

A response from the TSA debunking this as well is listed here: http://www.yokimbo.com/archives/9

Having just gone through USA and international security 7 times with over 80 pounds of gear between Craig and me, I can tell you from first-hand experience that we were not asked to remove anything from its bag at any point.

I agree with Seb on this one. I went through TSA inspection in Sept. With a fully loaded camera bag that included two DSLR's and was not ask to remove them. The bag went through the machine and not an eyebrow was raised. Last year however I was pulled aside while an inspector looked at everything in the bag. He took off the lens caps and looked through every lens.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Thanks for the input guys. I too went flew internationally earlier this year, and had no problems. Just posted this as more of a heads up for people to be prepared in case a TSA agent tells them to remove their DSLR from their case.

I have seen signs for removing video cameras and laptops, but nobody has ever wanted to see my DSLR. One time I had someone that was only interested in one lens, asked me to remove the caps and looked thru it.

They were lens shopping, wanted to handle one before they bought it
