new stuff for a friend's business

Friend's of ours are opening a compounding pharmacy and they have given me the opportunity to build up my photo collection :) ...here's a few... we shot about 120 and I think only 20ish turned out decent... some of these are targeted to be in their brochure and on the website. It was a lot of thinking and I used alot of the skills learned on here with composition and,looking at the whole and avoiding crazy stuff like exit signs---anything that woulkd be a nightmare in post editing...

I'm sorry I haven't ben able to respond or look at more stuff---life is nuts...take care

I like them all. First off, the choice of B&W is a good one! And I like the selective use of color as in the last one (the blue water in the beaker thing). Exposure is nice and bright without being overblown, composition is great IMO. I'm sure your friends will be happy!

I like these. The first one is great for it's bold color and simplicity.

I like the one with the capsules as well. Simpler is better sometimes (most of the time for most of us!).

The two with the man in the background are great as well. Excellent job framing those. While I normally don't care for combining B&W and color, it really works well in the last shot.

Pat yourself on the back for these. I'm sure your friends were delighted with them.

These are beautiful images, the lighting is great and effects you have used are tasteful & add to the composition. You should be very pleased with the results, not to mention your friends. :D

VERY nice! Great commercial shots.

I know nothing about how to shoot commercial shots, but imho, these are all quite nice.

not bad for overhead lights, a work lamp clamped to the counter and a floor lamp... their brochure is two color so that was the only way I could think to add a bit more punch to their pics and still have them be fun but professional.. Thanks for looking and commenting...they were pretty happy.

I was thrilled to open up another avenue of marketability LOL... I'm finding I really enjoy stock and commercial photography almost as much as portraits...the exciting part is they are willing to let me display other stuff in a small section of the store and they may use a couple of the shots from this session as prints around some of the store... Mary and Bill always give back as much as they utilize people's skills. I really think they're wonderful

Payment for this and for working on their website--is that they're willing to pay for a college class on web design so can learn HTML...sweet deal plus she gave me a lot of supplies from her scrapbooking business---they really are very fair...

she's also got about 25+ years of marketing/advertising experience and said she would be willing to provide all that experience for free to help me effectively set up a photo business....

I have to say these are some of the BEST pictures that I've seen you take. Excellent work! I like them all.

By the way, you're shooting with the Digital Rebel, correct? How do you like that camera so far? I was hoping to get in the near future a D60 or Nikon D100 but I just can't afford it, and the Rebel seems like a good alternative.

I'm shooting with my faithful point and shoot a Dimage G500

It is serving me well---and when I can actually put some cashola together I definitely need to move on to an SLR because my cute little camera is running out of features to try....

Thanks for the encouraging words....I really think these have been some of my better shots. They are finally more of the "look" that I wish the rest of my photos could have.

Natalie (a she) simply used selective coloring in photoshop. There are many ways to do this...

You can use any selction tool and select the exact area you want to be in color. Then choose a color from the palette, fill it (on a new layer) and change the layer blend mode to color, overlay, or saturation.

Or, you can use a brush and paint the color on a new layer, again changing the blend mode so the bw detail shows through.

Or, you can add a layer of color on a new layer over the entire frame, then mask off all the areas you DON'T want to be in color.
