I had been shooting film with my Canon Elan 7 (SLR) an scanning my film up until the start of 2007. I had always wanted to go digital capture but was waiting for the Canon 5D to drop in price.(I just felt the full frame sensor, and the high resolution was what I needed to jump into the DSLR thing) I could not hold out any longer and bought the Rebel XTi, as it seemed to be packed with great features and received very good write ups. I am very happy with it and have no regrets about buying it. It's packed with alot of features and punch, especially for the money.
I can't imagine ever shooting film again. . . .

I went ahead and marked DSLR, because about 95% of my photos came from my D70s this last year, but of the photos that I really like, I'd say my Canonet can claim at least a third of them. I'm actually in the process of auctioning off some old stuff, so I can get a Bessa R2A. I'll still be using the D70s, because I do think it's a great camera, but film is better for B&W, and there's just nothing else that looks like Velvia.

Canon 30D with a Canon Digital Rebel for backup...

Canon Digital Rebel XT. It's more camera then I know what to do with for now, but I'm learning. I would highly suggest it for entry level. The XTi came out shortly after I got my XT. The XT was a gift and and upgrade from my Canon Rebel 35mm.

John, the Xti has whats called "Partial Metering" (one of the three metering modes it offers) and it utilizes a very small area of the center of the viewfinder.I think most mid to high range cameras offer these modes. This would be very close to spot metering. Also, with the sophistication of the in-cameras metering systems, the ability to dial in over and under exposure, LCD's and built in histograms, I personally feel that the need for spot meters and hand held light meters are becoming a thing of the past. ( Except if one is shooting large format or some medium format systems that do not use such in-camera weapons). Also, I would gather that studio photogs would still use handheld spots and such, but my type of shooting does not utilize it much at all.

Nikon D200 here as well, been my mainstay since it arrived on the scene and has never failed to do its job.

Nikon D200 here.

My Canon s30 died but if I was alive it might be used the most since I would carry it more than I do my d200.

The spot meter is a wash for me, but the 5 fps would be very nice. The DRebel is 3 fps, and I find it to be very slow when shooting fast moving birds, and other critters. There is no dought that the XTi is a great camera, but I'm still holding out to see what's next in the mid level range from Canon. I'm also hoping that the 30D replacement uses the same batteries as the DRebel, 20D & 30D since I have 4 of them. :)

Of course the $ saved on the XTi would help pay for the 70-200 f/2.8L IS :D

On a side note, I heard a pod cast yesterday with a rep from Canon. He said that the Mk III was the ONLY new DSLR that Canon was going to be offering this spring, so I'll be sticking with the Rebel for a while yet.

As for me...my main camera is the Pentax *ist DL with the SMCP DA 50-200 f4-5.6 ED lens. I use the Nikon Coolpix 8400 a lot for my landscape so that I don't have to switch lenses so often and it's pictures are very acceptable.

I recently wrote a review for my tripod head but don't feel qualified to write a review for my D-80.

Hi Frog, as Reviews Moderator, I read all of the reviews. Some are better than others, but all are valuable. I'm sure you have something to say about your D-80 that could be valuable to someone. If you've been using for a while, I'm sure you've found some good and bad things about it. Please let us know what you think. It will be appreciated.

We don't have any requirements for reviewer's experience level. In fact, the more variety the better. You know there are guys out there that are just like you, thinking about buying the D80. They'll want to know what you - a guy just like them - think of the camera. So your review is just as valuable as anyone else's. Please post!

I'll echo PJ's remarks too Frog. I try not to write a review that's too technobabblegobbledeegook. I'll leave that for the guys at dpreview. The hard core tweaks out there might be interested in comparing specs between camera brands and models, and I look at those too, but I think it's more important to give feedback on the practical use of the camera itself, much of which will be governed by your experience level. When I read user reviews on this site, I tend to scan for reviews written by users with experience levels similar to mine, or scan for reviews that are written from practical use of the camera or lens. I tend to ignore reviews that are mirror images of the manufacturer's spec sheet for the camera, lens, or accessory. Heck, I can get that from the online stores and manufacturers websites, I want to know if they like their gear or hate it, and why.

I'll add to the list of Digital Rebel XT's.. But soon a 30D!!!

I am now using Pentax K10D's and their Battery Grips as well as several of their lenses which are the 21, 40 and 70 Limited's, 100 Macro, 12-21, 16-45 and shortly the 16-50 and 50-135. I also have a complete Canon kit including the 1D mkll's, 20D's and 350D. No I didn't give them up when I changed over to Pentax...
