I quit my job!!! and I am happy

Hello and I wanted to share the good news....

My wife and I wanted me to quit my job in May, but I chickened out. After further consideration, I gave my notice yesterday. My official last day is December 2nd, but I may help out the last three weeks. Mentally I am ready to go..

I may try to find another finance job, but for now I want to rest up and do some photography for my stock photo clients.

We're really happy and leaving a job without another lined up is not me, but I was tired of coming home depressed and mentally drained. I feel alive!!!!

In the near future, my book should be done. It's the first installment. Each book will have 20 images with a short story or narration that describe my travels and what inspired me to take the photo.

I'm just glad to have a life without struggling through personal hell everyday...

It sounds like you certainly made the right decision, Loren. I'm very happy for you. It's so good you and your wife made this decision together. It's important to have the support when we have difficult and challenging decisions to make.

It sounds like your book is coming along. Please keep us updated on this.

Enjoy your new freedom - December 2nd isn't far off!

It's always scary to make a major decision like that, but it sounds like you know what you are doing. Good luck on the book(s) and I hope you don't have to get another "desk" job any time soon!!!

You made the right choice. You chose to live life not just passing through. You must enjoy life.

    Thank you everybody

It was a hard decision, but easy to live with. My book is a self publication so not a big deal, but I plan to do my best to make it a part of my soul.

My wife is awesome...and while I am scared to death..I will not blow this chance to be passionate about life and lead a healthier life mentally and physically. She is my inspiration.

I will keep everybody posted when my book is done (a couple of months) and if you are interested I will try to get it published in mass so people can buy a personal copy.

Thanks PhotographyReview. I consider this board an extended family.

    You're welcome!

Thank you for your kind words......

Have lots of fun in Paris. Good choice as you already know - I was there about 5 years ago. Loved it!

I hope we meet someday also.

Re: I quit my job!!! and I am happy

Good luck with all of this...it is a tough choice but sometimes it's the best one, not always popular, but who cares, what matters is your OK with it. I see it as being no different than changing jobs, it's just you don't have to get up until YOU want to or don't have to run off to some office and deal with the garbage of everyone else.
I would however suggest not driving a car in Paris....they don't seem to like cars right now (almost as much as they dislike Americans, but I'd still go back)

Be safe, and have fun! Take lots of neat pictures....and yes, you do have to come back...no staying there

I criss-crossed the Paris area today in my car and nobody tried to burn it. I even went to one of the places where there have been the disturbances. Nothing. It's just the kids in the ghettos north of the city burning their neighbours cars to draw attention to how miserable they are.

Parisians don't dislike Americans. They're obnoxious to EVERYBODY, until you learn the ways of the place and fit in.

Wow. Good for you. If you're coming home feeling like that everyday...some jobs are not worth the paycheck.
We give a business management seminar to the senior dental students at Loma Linda U., and one of the questions we ask is "how many here are looking for a job when you graduate?" The second question we ask is "how many are looking for a career?". For the first 8 years after graduation, I worked as a dentist in a job setting. The last five years I've been building my career, and I wish I had walked off the job 13 years ago and started working on a career.

    Way to go!

I know that its a tough world, and a steady paycheck is awesome.

Your job should be a career that you crave and are happy with, or you may live a miserable and unrewarding life.

Good luck with your book and stock photography!

Good luck with the career move, Loren. You always have your "job" skills to fall back on. You might consider working part time while you get your photo business on track...

Just to let you know that the situation in the Paris area is calm again, that the Beaujolais Nouveau is in the shops, and that if you're looking for a photography-related event this weekend it's Paris-Photo at the Caroussel du Louvre from today (Thursday) till Sunday.

Paris-Photo is a get-together of about 100 photographic art galleries from all around the world. Each one has a stand where they show their greatest hits (and try to sell them of course). I can stand it for about two hours then I stagger out never wanting to see another photo ever again. I'll probably be down there about 3pm on Saturday.

Good for you Loren. My husband quit his job after working at it for 15 plus years. It was something he felt he had to do, or be miserable for the rest of his life. He never turned back, and is so much happier with the job he has now. Our best wishes for a great new beginning for you and your lovely wife.
