Talking My Wife Just Bought Me A D200!

Not ten minutes ago, she called a company called epix and told them she was interested in a D200. The salesman replied "You and everyone else!" Turns out they had two, one of which was on ebay (which was how my wife found them). So she bought me the other one. It will be shipped out today, with a 4 to 7 working day shipping time.

I'm so giddy right now I can hardly see straight. ;-)

Looks like I'm going to be getting a crash course in digital SLR photography.

For those that may have noticed I haven't been around much lately, I have been incredibly busy. We've had some changes at work, which have meant more work for me (with no more pay of course). Also, I spent three days last week in Raleigh at a National Conference, where I also was a presenter. The week before that I spent three days in Cedar Point for training. So it's been a busy time. But never fear, I have not dropped off my favorite website!

Here's the link to the ebay D200 if anyone is interested:

    Nice!

When I read the title of the message, it didn't show who posted it, just the last person to reply and I thought: "That message can only be from Speed." And it was.

How lucky can a guy be? You must have been a saint in a former life.

My local stores haven't had a D200. I was in Columbus, OH last week and drove past a store (Cord camera) that had one and I got a chance to shoot with it some. It is an awesome camera and easily beats the D70s in every respect. It is very solid and professional looking, too. You will love it.

They only had it with the 18-70 kit lens, which I didn't need, plus I had just bought a nice (used) 17-35mm AFS, so I took a pass. I'm jealous, though.;)

Congrats, you lucky dog. I've been contemplating finishing my journey to the dark side by switching to Nikon, and the D200 is the one on my list. Post a review and pics soon.:-)

Continue shooting with them, of course!

    I still need a SB-800 after all.

    And a new computer.

And I still have more than 50 rolls of print film and 10 rolls of slide film.

But I do expect my film shooting to drop off quite a bit in the near future...

Yeah, it's been a long time coming. And I'm not there yet. Still need a couple of CF cards, a SB-800, and that new computer. Hopefully by the end of the year, I'll be all set.

I just hope Rick hasn't written me off as having gone to the Dark Side....

A pair of 2GB CF cards, a SB-800, a HP Media Machine, and when I win the lottery, a D2X as a "backup" camera!

Talking "That message can only be from Speed." And it was.

You know me too well my friend! ;-)

"How lucky can a guy be? You must have been a saint in a former life."

I wouldn't go that far, but God must love me to have given me the wife He did!

"They only had it with the 18-70 kit lens"

Yeah, I noticed that B&H only had the D200 with the 18-70mm lens. I clicked on "notify me when available" on the camera body only, and got a message "Due to unprecedented consumer interest we are unable to add any additional correspondents to this list. Thank you for your understanding."

We also checked with Adorama and KEH, and they were also out of D200's. ASAP Photo still has two slips hanging where folks have already paid their money and are waiting for their camera's to come in. Finding one is tough. Which is part of why the wife decided to go ahead and get the camera first. She just couldn't see the price of the D200 coming down anytime soon. So I'll be using her computer for downloading my images. I'll just have to try to keep it reasonable and edit heavily. :-O

Thanks for the comments my friend!

Come on over! The Nikon Samurai's will gladly welcome you to the fold!

From everything I've heard and read, the D200 is THE consumer grade digital SLR to have. It does about 97% of what the D2X does at a third of the price. I am looking forward to getting mine. Once I learn how to use the thing, I'll be sure to post a review, and of course, images. :-D

BUT,... my wife did buy me a D200.

I'm anxious, excited, giddy,...you know the drill when waiting for new gear.

The wife sees me shooting a lot less film (as do I) but I've already told her that I will not be giving up slide film though. Hey, once you're used to the finer things in life, it's practically impossible to give them up!

Thanks for the comments buddy, and you, surely, knew that when I got a digital SLR, it would be a Nikon! N80, F5, Coolpix 5700, D200, the list just keeps growing.

BTW, did you get your replacement for your Coolpix yet? What did you get?

Gee Wizzzzzz!!!!! I'm off here for a couple of hours and something like this happens. I was beginning to think that you were never going to make the jump to the dark side. Thank goodness for Dawn!! Someone in the family has the good sense to know it's time to come to into the digital age. I loved my N80 and the 6 other Nikon film camera that are now gathering dust, but I felt like a veil was lifted from my eyes when I got the D70 and then the D2H added the speed and pro features that I dreamed of. The D200 is big on my list now but will have to wait for a while. I am so happy for you Speed. This will be like you just discovered photography all over again. I can't wait to start seeing your daily post with the D200. Keep us updated on how you plan to repay that beautiful wife of yours.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Show off!!! And we wives take far too good a care of you boys. Ok, truth is I'm absolutely green with envy. Even if I am just gathering dust on both the D70 AND the F5 at the moment. Sigh.

And what's the deal of coming to Raleigh and not letting me know?? I hope you enjoyed your time here.

Can't turn your back around here. Shoot, I haven't even been on the forums for a couple of weeks, and when I came back, I came back with a bang.

" Thank goodness for Dawn!! Someone in the family has the good sense to know it's time to come to into the digital age."

You are right. Dawn does have the good sense. If I had good sense, I wouldn't have gotten into photography and I would have saved thousands of dollars. Thank God I don't have good sense! ;-)

" Keep us updated on how you plan to repay that beautiful wife of yours."

Can do. She wants me to have the rest of the sidewalk done. (It's partly concrete and partly patio stones) So that is my number one priority now. As for the rest of the repayment, well, this is a family forum, but use your imagination. Then multiply it by a factor of five. :-O

Thanks for the comments and the encouragement my friend!
