my new dog

I just rescued a dog from a guy who needed to get rid of his dog. He is nearly 23 months old and papered.

These images are grab shots from a FUJI A340 and their purpose was only to show him to the masses. I just aimed and shot from the hip.

Does anyone know what breed he is(other than those I emailed )

This is just a guess Paul. Has anyone thought it a Bullmastiff?

I'm with Lara - my first thought was one of the mastiffs.

I would also have to agree with it being a Bullmastiff.....a neigbor has one, and it looks very similar. Very muscular, powerful dog. HTH. Good luck with him....

My first thought was that it's a mastiff. Our neighbor has a Roman Mastiff, originally bread to protect the gladiators. A VERY VERY jeoulous breed. Her dog goes nuts whenever we play with our Black Lab in the backyard. Not sure what the Bulls are like tho.

Yes, he is a mastiff breed. NO he isn't a Bullmastiff or a Roman ( tawny colored neopolitan?) mastiff.


HINT, he is not a AKC recognised breed and his breed was in a semi popular movie.

To me, Turner and Hooch is one of Tom Hank's greatest "sleeper" films. Assuming of course, you can handle how disgusting Hooch's drooling is... :D

DING DING DING...... we have a winner :) Roscoe is a DOGUE DE BORDEAUX (french mastiff) . He is about 115lbs(I think) and his previous owner NEVER leash trained him properly, nor do I think he had people IN his home much.He seems to like people OUTSIDE and other animals seem to be of no interest. He has sniffed our pug 3 times, but could care less.

I still need to get him to like my GF's brother(who lives with us) who is scared of dogs. Not that he doesn't, but Marc has yet to try to bond and the clock is ticking. Roscoe is a natural guard dog and sees Marc as an intruder .

I may have to return Roscoe if I can not acheive HARMONY in my house.

Good thing, rescuing a dog. You get top bunk in the afterlife for that. Plus, you get the love of a happy doggie, right now. And there's no purer love than a dog's love.

Ditto John, good of you to do this. And best luck with the harmony - even after almost seven years I still remember the first three months... That ended when one morning the Malamute puppy was bigger than the Samoyed. Best buddies ever since.

Get rid of the brother and keep the dog Paul, would be my suggestion.

Yes, getting rid of Marc would be the easy solution, BUT BOTH need our love and support right now. Marc is now sober about a month! He was a daily closet drinker from day one so we came to realise. He is a much better person now, though I still think he's a free loder :)

HONESTLY speaking... my life is no different, but a DOG has filled one of the holes in my life :)

I ONLY rescue/ adopt USED dogs :) YES, it is tough to get them re trained properly, but too many dogs are thrown away like yesterdays newspaper to justify me BUYING from a breeder.

Besides, I only get the BIG ugly rare breeds anyway(they cost $1000- 3000 for a puppy)

Congratulations on your new canine. I have rescued several dogs over the years and applaud anyone who is willing to do so. The best with your new friend. Looks like a great companion to shooting with.
