    My First Post and Photo

This is my first foray into photography. The photo shown is from a FujiFilm FinePix 2650 I picked up.

Tell me if I am wrong but I should probably use a variety of settings to see how the photos will change with each.

I know that this camera does not match up to the professional ones most of you use but the more comfortable I get with setting up shots I think will allow me to purchase a better camera as time goes on.

    What do you think ..

I think you did quite well here! Don't believe that a top of the line camera takes great images, because it's the person behind the camera who takes the images I use a 4mp fuji P&S as backup to my 1D and charge the same to take images with it ;)

Welcome Rick. It's not the camera that matters, it's how you use it to produce your vision.
And with digital, it's how you process in the digital darkroom-unlike the days of film when you were at the mercy of the lab (unless you developed and printed your own of course).
Again, welcome to PR. Keep posting :-)

No matter how cliche it sounds: it's not the equipment but the person operating it.

Welcome to the board and great shot.

Absolutely positively 100% agree! It's the best way to learn because you're seeing what happens in your own situations. You can learn a lot from books or places like this site, but you weren't standing next to the person talking about their shot. Because of this, you didn't see what they saw and how the light really looked.

Shoot a lot, try a bunch of settings - even (maybe especially) the settings that are probably "wrong" for the situation that you're in so you can see what they really do to the image.

For example, try the "indoor" white balance on a foggy day. Does the image you took look like what your eye saw? No, but it will be pretty cool! (Pun intended)

Nice image, like it a lot. Shows how the sea erodes the land, stealing it for sand elsewhere. The shoreline is a place of reclamation, the ultimate recycling machine.
    Captured perfectly.

    Photogirl,

I learnt it very quickly through sports and photography. Even with sports, you don't need grade "A" stuff to do well; it may help, but it would make you a better player.
