My 2nd full wedding and first wedding album

Well the wedding business rolls on as I have shot my second full wedding now. I think it was another sucess and the bride and groom have seen the images and the bride even broke down crying so I knew we did our job.

One thing that I've had in my business plan from the beginning was to offer custom wedding albums. This is the one thing I've had the most interest in myself when I decided to start shooting weddings. I've seen some that were just gorgeous and hope to be able to offer the same high quality that I have seen.

This is our first album and my fiance has done all the design layout (no template used) and I think what she has come up with is really nice. The bride and groom have already seen some samples of it and have said they would like multiple copies so that is nice boost of confidence.

We'd also like to use this as a sample for future clients so we'd really appreciate some feedback on what we can do better and things we can change to make it better. It is still in a rough draft state in that not all the photos have been edited and some of the borders can and will be changed.

I made a gallery with the pages on them. We've made a few different layouts for some of the pages and will have to get it trimmed down to fit in a 30 page album.

So if you have a molment of time and can take a look we'd really appreciate it.

    Without further ado:

    Thanks!

wow, those are some awesome shots you managed to get there. I love the layout, and the great mix between black and white and colours. I'm sure the couple will absolutly love it (because if I was I would...).

    Great job, thanks for sharing.

Wow - you did a really nice job! No wonder they're thrilled!

OK - so if you want a little constructive criticism, I see two minor points. First off, the same shot is used twice. I see Page 1 being a crop of Cover A, and it would be nice to see something slightly different - same shot, different expression maybe? I thought the same about pages 29-30 but it looks like you're still deciding between choices A, B and C. I don't know which one is my favorite but I'm thinking it's "B".

File "16page21-22" on the left - there are three shots of people walking down the aisle. Composition is similar in all the shots, but the background looks different, specifically the exposure and white balance of the white beams (is that what they are?) of the building. Only a goofy photographer like me would notice that, though.

Now if that's all I can find, and I'm not holding back , then you really did a nice job. Good for you for trying wedding photography out; I'm sure you'll do well.

Fantastic job Berrywise. I can understand why the bride was so happy. I don't think anyone could ever tell that this was only your 2nd wedding. Keep up the great work.

    Scott and Laura,

Great shots and definately is a keeper. Just a minor note, how are you planning on arranging the pages? If you are spining/binding it (I think that's the correct term), your going to have a lot of images cut off and restricted in the middle. Hopefully your doing an 8 by 14 version of the book and have each of those pictures a single shot.

Having seen your work in the past your encouraging words are really appreciated.

Yep, based on the bride's response to the cover using the flower I think we will go with that one for the cover and then use the photo of them standing in front of the building for first page inside the book. I personally kind of like having them on the cover but having them on the first page I think works as well.

Some of the pages like you foudn out are duplicates and going over them last night I think I might combine some of the elements from each to make the finished page.

Yeah, I decided to use the page with the family formal instead. We have to fit this into a 30 page book so some of the layouts will just not get used. I really despise using flash and used flash for them walking down the isle. I still have yet to master the art of getting perfect exposures. Not bad but not great.

Now if that's all I can find, and I'm not holding back , then you really did a nice job. Good for you for trying wedding photography out; I'm sure you'll do well.

    Thanks again!

Thanks Ken. I've found it fairly easy to adapt my style into wedding photography. After you get an idea on what photos are must haves you are able to free up yourself to get the photos that are the more unique.

I have the ability behind the camera, I know I do, but it is hard to tell a bride and groom that when you've only got so many wedding photos to show them. Luckily my friends got married last summer and I photographed that wedding in its entirety and add in the here and there wedding photos I've take and I was able to get a book together which has booked me 7 weddings this year.

    Jared,

We can them made up in a number of different ways. One way you can have it bound is a stich bound which eliminates the binding so you don't lose any of the photo.

Of the final layouts we think we'll end up with though we've already factored in the 1/2" that you lose by using a book binding which I think looks the nicest. Some of the layouts we did does go across the binding but in the end I think the ones we will choose we won't lost anything important in that 1/2".

The overall thing will be 10x10" pages so 10x20" spreads.

I run with a 20D and a 70-200 2.8 and a 17-40 f4. Hopefully this summer or fall I'll pick up another Canon body so I can dump my Nikon gear that I keep on site in case my Canon fails.
