Me and Asylum Steve!

We met yesterday to scout locations for some up coming shoots he is planing around my town.

Thanks, John. For me, it was a good day all around. It was great to make a small road trip, meet and spend some time with you, catch up on what changes have happened to Jax since the last time I was there (all those years ago), and especially get your help (and taxi service!) in scouting some scenic locales for upcoming projects.

For those that don't know it (and I think that would be nearly everyone), the City of Jacksonville was incorporated into Duval County in 1968 (or perhaps it was the other way around), making it the largest city in land area in the United States.

I have some very specific visuals in mind for some fashion shoots I have planned soon, and with John's knowledge of the city/county, we covered much more ground than I possibly could have by myself.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day, and we ended up at a funky beach strewn with these large bleached out dead trees. I'm sure John can give more details about the location...

I only wish we could have gotten more locations in. But on the bright side, that just leaves more for the next time!

Little Talbot Island is a very beautiful place, and the beach is unique in this area. It has a fascinating history that goes all the way back to Spanish pirates, who used the barrier islands as havens when being chased by the royal navies of the day. In the early 20th century it was a part of the Rum Runner's corridor during the prohibition era, and during WWII is was a strafing beach that the army and navy flyers used for target practice. To this day you can find bottles from rum runner wrecks and 20mm bullet casings from the 1940's.

As Steve mentioned above the beach is covered with large pieces of driftwood, much of wich are entire trees.

...we ended up going to. The first two are from (and correct me if I'm wrong, John) a place called Jennings State Forrest. It may be a bit out of the way to actually use in a shoot, but we stumbled upon this cool, somewhat surreal area of weird gnarly (and I'm using this word's literal meaning folks) tree stumps.

Kind of an area you'd expect a gnome to hang out at... :D

The last shot is at the same beach as John's shot of the two of us. Slightly more accessible (although John risked life and limb to get me there - BTW, how's the ankle, John?), but equally surreal with its driftwood of unusual size...:cool:

Again, aside from the odd visual elements themselves, the lighting and the shadows are what appeal to me the most...

Play your cards right Almo and maybe Steve will let you hold a reflector for him or something. I sure wish I was close enough to get in on the action. I'd love to tag along behind Steve for a day or two.

Cool. I love all the driftwood on the beach. I've only seen one other beach with that much driftwood, but it wasn't nearly as large.

I'm envious. I have yet to meet anyone from the PR community.

Are you serious? That's it, dinner at my house, bring your lovely wife. I'm thinking June...

When you shooting in JAX? Have you got the ringflash yet and maybe a battery pack to use it on the beach with? It's only a 8 hour drive for me if you need the help. Of course I'd have to make sure I wasn't needed for transport duties to acting,, one of 11 weekly dance classes, trumpet practice, trombone lessons, golf practice, basketball practice ......, teaching SCUBA, etc. If I know two months in advance I can ask my handlers (wife and daughter) for time off for good behavior.
