Skies will be unclouded here in Banning. Hopefully I'll be able to get a few shots. Missed the comet last time!!!

Oh, just looked at the link. I guess it'll be a bust for us west coasters. :(

It will be in total eclipse when it rises, but you should be able to see it just fine once it is up. Find you a nice dark spot, and watch for where the moon will rise. Go out a day or two in advance to see where, or check Outdoor Photographer. Every other month or so, they give the sunrise/moonrise in degrees.

Here's a link that will tell you when the moon will rise for your location.

I was really looking forward to this event but unfortunately they are calling for snow all day on Saturday here in Toronto... 60% chance of precipitation and 100% chance of cloud cover...damnit.

Cool :) Chances look dim for Phoenix to see totality but I might be able to catch it after sunset...

The weather man is calling for a 30% chance of rain for us, so I'm not sure I'll be able to see. But if the weather cooperates, then I intend to be out where I can watch the moonrise and photograph it.

Maybe the weather will give us a break this time around.

    Cool :)
Catch what you can buddy! The moon will be in totality when it rises here on the east coast. Weather permitting (30% chance of rain) I'll be out there watching and photographing it. If the weather is nice, I'm taking my Celestron C-8 out for it. If the weather is so-so, I'll just take my camera, my telephoto lens and my tripod.

Good luck, and I expect photo's if you see it!

From what I have read Speed on the east side of the continent we should be able to see it eclipsing as it rises going to full eclipse by 6:45pm and then exiting eclipse by 8:25 or so for completion. I sure hope the weather blows through for you (and me) so that we can see some nice shots of it.

It's happening right now in the UK!
My pic is REALLY poor because I don't have a zoom that can cope with the task and I have had to blow it up quite a bit. But I am pleased I have recorded it

I hope someone else is going to get a good pic of it on here.

Yea! We had perfect weather here. Actually it was fairly windy, and I was on the top deck of a parking deck, so I used the car and car door to shield the tripod as much as possible. I took over 170 shots and here's a bunch - directly from the camera, just cropped. I'm so excited that I was able to get these! :D

These are so cool obie!!! I got the first half lol. I just haven't loaded them to my computer yet.

What lens and settings did you use to get these?

    Re: Lunar Eclipse Saturday!
Thanks Alison. I used a variety of settings and two lenses (lensi?). And again - these were shot RAW and are completely untouched except for cropping.

All were either 200 or 300mm, early shots were f5.6 1/125. As it progressed, I had to continually close down and/or bump up the shutter. Last ones were f11 1/640. I'm not great at knowing how to bracket exposures yet, so I just did it manually throughout and kept checking the exposure in the viewfinder. Thanks to an earlier viewfinder post by Almo just a few weeks ago, I knew that when it was a full moon it was going to be around f8 and 1/250 - which I would never have guessed. So a HUGE THANKS to Almo!! Thanks Almo!

Alison - we can put our shots together and have the full eclipse :p

I was looking forward to this all day. The day started out clear, then clouded up. When the sun finally started to set, the clouds were still there, so I couldn't see anything.:mad2: I went to a play, and when it got over, the sky was clear as can be, but it was too late. I did stop on the way home to snap a few shots of the full moon anyway.

Nah, believe me my shots are REALLY poor lol.
The best lenses I have at the moment are for portraits (my little diamond 50mm) and my group shot/landscape lens (17-40mm f/4 L).

Now you are just teasing me MJ!!!
Awesome shot of the moon! What lens and settings did you use for that!!! Incredible!!!

    Alison,

This was shot with the original DRebel and my Sigma 170-500mm, in manual mode. ISO 200, shutter speed 1/500 @ f/8. I used a tripod and cabel release as well. It's a pretty heavy crop.

Awesome shot mjs! My next project is to crop mine similar to yours and have a series - hopefully good enought quality to print. Wish I had a 500mm.

I tried a sigma 500mm and I wasn't impressed. But then it was handheld lol
I was impressed with the zoom though. Very nice!

I understand that Alison. This lens is pretty OK, if used on a tripod, with a cabel release, and stopped down. I would rather have a 600 f/4, but then again, wouldn't we all. To be honest, I bought this lens a few years ago, before I knew anything about photography. As I have learned more, I have learned how to get the most out of this lens.

I tried, but we had nothing but clouds. I gave up and went in where it was warm. Maybe I live to see another. Saw the last one back in '89, so it could happen.

    Great shots everyone!
