Look what I found!

I was going along a local creek trying to find an interesting shot. I didn't find anything I really liked, but I saw this.

I took a handful of pictures, but it was getting dark and I was running out of light.

Lotta bees!

We once had a queen escape from a nearby grower once and the whole colony clumped around her on a branch and the beekeeper came over and cut it off and took them all back.

I suspect that they were probably looking for a new nest or something. It was pretty neat to see.

I've seen a two or three of those swarms..happens when they're looking for a new hive.
Since honey bees seem to be on the decline, I'm glad you found these and got a shot.

Very neat! Last year at my daughters preschool.. there was a swarm that had started making a new nest in the front of the school. Some keeper came and vacuumed them up and moved them to a better location :)

Good shot. that is a lot of bees, it would make one of my sons favorite characters happy (pooh bear)

great capture , i too hate bee's, they don't look normal bumble bee's could they be those african bee's i heard about.?

Thanks for commenting. I wouldn't guess that these are not Africanized bees. They were actually very docile. It could be because the temperature was going down and night was falling, but I never felt threatened at all. Of course, I'm not allergic so that wasn't a concern.

As for the overall size, this was probably only about 1/5 of the total group. It was pretty impressive.

They generally aren't very aggressive when swarming.
