    Take it Off the Camera

Look..I don't want to ruffle any feathers here, but if you want your images to have a bit more interest, I strongly suggest you finding a way to use flash off of the camera. Direct flash, kills all of the shadows and flattens the image in a way that I quite frankly find boring. If you have no choice, here is a suggestions. Build a makeshift stand and put a 2x2 cardboard square reflector to your right or left and aim the flash towards the reflector and in to the subject. This will add dimension and drama to your images. Try this out and tell me what you think...

I've just started experimenting with this actually. The Nikon dSLRs have this feature built in actually. All you need is one external flash SB-600 or SB-800 and a dSLR with an onboard flash.

You can read up how here: http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/ittlslave.htm

Strobist.com is also a great site as well as the Flickr Group Strobist.com.

In fact, on the Flickr group, they are redoing the Bootcamp series. If you want to join in that it's a great experience. Only 2 days left to get the first assignment completed tho, so hurry.

I also agree, but sometimes you just have to use what's available, and there are ways of having fun with the flash, but notice how harsh the flash is on the skin!
