    Last of the Season???
Even though I'm not very good at it I enjoy taking pictures of flowers. My wife enjoys growing them and its a way we can share in their beauty. The growing season is rapidly coming to an end. It's been over 6 months since I laid on the ground and took a pictures of the first frost covered bloom of the season. This may be my last one of the year. So how about showing off some of your best flower shots of the year, kind of a retrospect of the season. I know it isn't very sexy, it will be hard to work Viagra or a bare butts in, but than it might be a fun thread. Here is one I took last night. Come on I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours.

    Ooooh!
Very pretty! I've enjoyed your flower images this season.

I'm afraid I don't have any flower pics worth posting. And those I do have, I can't access from work anyway.

    Good comp...
    OT,

I like the way you cropped this shot. You force the viewer to see the symmetrical patterns of the flower in an asymmetrical way...

BTW, if you don't think flower images can be sexy, take a look at some of Georgia O'Keeffe's work... :D

    Hello Old Timer,

This is arguably a remarkable shot both from a technical and an artistic point of view.
Your composition is quite unique as Steve pointed out. Beside the colours and the sharpness just makes the flower pop out of my screen.

    kudos

Extraordinarily beautiful image, Old Timer. My favorite that I've seen from you. The macro lens is really being put ot good use.

As for my contribution, I'll cheat a little - while there is a flower in the photo, it isn't the star. Took this photo this morning.

    Post your flowers!
People: these shots are very high quality pics. While you are clearly out of my league, here are some of mine. All very classic compositions...

Thanks OT for this post! By the way, I love your shot! Awesome.

    Cheers,

    Steph.

    Thanks guys
Thanks guys I'm so glad that this post got a few of you motivated to post. I love to photograph flower all though they are certainly not all a success, each one poses it's own challenge. Flowers are so much easier to find than live models and never talk back. I am very grateful for the kind remarks about my dahlia post and yes Steve you are very right about Georgia O'keefe, we had one of her works on our wall for several years. Seb I did crop this several ways glad you liked the final edition. Clicker I'm glad you noticed the center curl that is what drew me to this image in the first place. Nat your images are always something special, thanks for play with me. LL I'm always appreciative of your comments, your images are hard to follow, your current butter fly on the flower is certainly an excellent example of your talent. (And yes I am having a ball with the 105) Steph thanks for joining in you have some very nice flower images.

Ok here is a second post not as dramatic but I was trying something different. I just got an SB 800 and I was working with it in manuel. This one is with a -3EV. Did it make it? Kind of a fall theme.

SORRY I couldn't get the image to upload I'll try again latter.

Photgraphy tie-in: You probably know this, but Georgia O'Keefe's husband, Alfred Stieglitz was a noted photographer who took lots and lots of picture of her. http://okeeffemuseum.org/background/index.html

    My contribution
There are some fantastic flower pictures being posted. I love them all and they are so refreshing to look at! This is my rose that took me 3 years to find a place in my yard that it liked. This is the first year that it actually did something...it was huge!....and so were the thorns. Now everything is starting to get bit by frost.

Woooww... cannot take my eyes of it! The frost really adds something to the velvety texture of the flower. I am very impressed by the exposure, sharpness and DOF. A masterful shot by all means!

Thank you for the comment. I just loved that rose. It was velvet red on top with velvet white underside, very different I think. Sorry, this was before the frost hit, but the greenery is now starting to turn to fall colors. I'm not ready for cold!
