Just saying hello

Just thought I'd introduce myself here as I've just joined. I've been taking photographs since ... well forever. I use an old Pentax SV mainly for black and white photographs which I develop myself (still get a buzz from that) and a Zenit 12XP mainly for colour (which I've not learned to develop yet, but want to eventually).

Both SLRs are totally manual and use M42 screw mount lenses. I have 28mm, 50mm, 135mm and 200mm with a 2x converter but I'm really looking for a zoom for them. I'm also looking for a replacement light meter for the Pentax as the old one finally gave up the ghost a couple of years ago.

I've also got a lovely old Kodak Retinette IIB which I picked up for £2 in a charity shop. There's a bit of vignetting on the lens but I love the 'old' quality of the images I get - one for arty stuff really.

And as my little point and shoot died recently, I have finally given in and got myself a digital camera. This will prove to be much cheaper for my snapshots down the pub and with the kids as I was getting through so much film. I've got an Olympus C5000z which has 5 megapixels and manual override (with aperture priority, shutter priority or totally manual) for my control freak needs :D

I love black and white, abstracts, candids, and things that are falling to pieces :) - rust is a particular favourite as are derelict buildings etc. I've also been taking some flower photographs this summer using my macro extension tubes - lovely shallow depth of field with them :D

Did I hear vignetting? Oh ,I'd love to see those! I shoot mainly with a Holga for that exact reason! And as for the "arty stuff," we'd love to see you over on the new "Photography as Art" forum as well :)

Speaking of derelict buildings, this weekend in NYC, there's a big "open house," and many of the architectural gems are open for free with free tours, etc. Today I took advantage of that by going to Roosevelt Island to see the old smallpox hospital, which is a grand old crumbling building. I shot about 5 rolls with my Holga, both black and white and color. So you'll get to see them in a few months, heh heh. My drummer drums pretty slow, so it takes me awhile to get things developed and scanned.

Well I've managed to get 3 photographs up so far. Two of my macro flowers in the Macro Photo Project gallery and the other is a black and white that I hand tinted, of an old, overgrown window covered in a creeper and lychens in the Windows Photo Project gallery. I have quite a few more to add to each of these albums.

It's a bit frustrating only being able to load one photo at a time. Is there a quicker way? I'm on a very slow dial-up connection with a rather old PC so you'll have to bear with me. I have hundreds of photos that I'd love to share, but it's going to take some time at this rate.

So my own album? How does this work? I seem to recall seeing that the photos I've added to those two albums above seem to be allocated to my own album. Is this correct? And how do I add photos to just my own album? I can't seem to find anywhere.
