    Just Bought a D70...
First impressions - it is a better camera in almost every way than my N80 - better autofocus, better on-board flash, better ergonomics with a little more to grip. The viewfinder is very small, but as bright as the N80. I loaded up a 256k card and found it holds 144 pictures in "normal" JPG mode. The 1.5x crop factor is great if you like to shoot wildlife and macros and the ability to chnge ISO on the fly is wonderful.

I don't think I'll be using film again!

Here's one of my first shots. Cropped at about 50% using D70 and 75-300 zoom at 300 on ISO 800. It's not great, but having an equivalent 450mm lens now is really nice.

    Congrats..it's a great camera
My ex-coworker who shoots mostly Canon, bought the D70 with a SB-800 to go with his 17-35 that he had for several years. We had dinner last weekend, and I was very impressed with the feel, and the images.

Nikon did well with this camera..

    Have fun Nikon Ninjas!!!

    Can be Nikon Samurai's!

Or Nikon Ninja's if you prefer.

Maybe we should call the Nikon film shooters samurai's, and the Nikon digital shooters ninja's! Hehehe.

    Another vote...
Another vote for the D70 as an excellent tool and exciting way to enter the digital SLR world. Congratulations on your new purchase. Mine is now nearly a month old and it's is growing love affair that doesn't promise to fade for a long time. I estimate that I have saved at least $200 in film and processing cost since I accured the D70. Granted I would not have shoot that many images with the N80, but now I have the freedom to fire away. (And it sounds so good when I tell my wife about the savings) Enjoy you new camera and continue to post. Your first post is a beautiful image.

so I am both a samurai and a ninja eh?
    Hey Lava Lamp,

Congratulation for the new camera. So far, it appears that every owners are in love with their D70, so do I!

I am not used to macro stuff but I'd say that your first shot is more than decent for a first attempt. In fact, it look quite good to me.

    regards

    Congrats LL!!
I'm loving the camera as well. Really had alot of fun with it over the last month and a half. I just love the freedom a DSLR brings. You can just shoot away, not having to worry about using all that slide film, and learn so much while doing it as well.
    Have fun with the camera!!
And awesome image, by the way. Keep them coming!!

    Congratulations!
Holy smokes, I'm not able to get here for a few days and seems like there has been a large scale jump to the D70 bandwagon.

If I weren't a longtime Canon user, already owning a Canon digital, I'd be seriously considering a D70 based on all the positive comments and shots like this one. I'm not much into macro but this looks good to me. Especially as a 50% crop.

Sounds like you've made a good choice. Let's see some more shots!
