It's Here, It's Here!!!!
I got back from vacation yesterday, and when I came into work today, one of my voicemails was that my Coolpix 5700 was in!!!!!

The battery is charging even as I type this! I am so excited!!!!!

No more framing using the screen! No more limited zoom (37-111mm - ugh)! Five megapixels! Flash control! ( I hated not being able to turn off the flash on the 3500). Apeture and shutter priortiy modes!

I am so happy!

Sigh............

:-D

Congratulations Speed!
We all know that absolutely wonderful feeling of taking a new camera out for the first time......second time.....third....etc. Sounds like a great camera. BTW what is the zoom size?

Now, start posting those pics already! ;)

Congrats...I've seen some stunning images taken with the 5700. Liz, it has a huge zoom range, something like 35-380. :-)

Myrtle Beach was awesome! This was our seventh year going, and this was by far the most relaxing time we've had. We had the most gorgeous weather we've ever had as well. If it gets any better, then I don't know how. ;-)

I shot nearly three rolls of film, mostly experimenting with different apetures and exposure compensation. I'll be sure to post any decent ones.

I see you kept the world safe for Nikon users around the world while I was gone! Great job my fellow samurai! And I somehow managed to convince the powers that be, that I just NEEDED a Coolpix 5700. Now I've got to read the manual. It's bigger than the manual for my N80!!!! But I'm looking forward to having more control in the digital realm.

Thanks for the comments my friend.

The Coolpix 5700 has an 8X zoom from 35mm to 280mm (35mm equivalent). That was my main argument for "needing" the 5700. The Coolpix 3500 has a 3X zoom from 37mm to 111mm, which I found very limiting.

Getting 5 megs, apeture and shutter priority modes, and flash control were all very nice bonuses.

It was a thrill getting it! Especially since I wasn't expecting it for another two weeks or so! Have I mentioned lately that I LOVE B&H Photo?!

A quick explanation may be in order here: The Coolpix 5700 was to be bought with Bioterrorism preparedness money. Your's truly is the Environmental Health BT guy, and amoung my many duties is to record (photograph) our training and exercises. The Health Department did not have an account with B&H, and I was told it would take two weeks to establish one. I faxed a letter to their Accounts Department, along with a copy of my Purchase Order, hoping they would start the process while I was on vacation. And did they ever! They processed my order, and the 5700 was waiting for me when I got back from vacation.

Let me repeat myself: I LOVE B&H Photo!!!!

And now I have a Coolpix 5700 to learn how to use! Have I mentioned lately that I am a happy man?!

Thanks for the comments Liz!

It is always exciting getting a new camera. Even if it does belong to the office, it is mine to use. I am looking forward to learning how to use it to it's full potential!

I WANNA BE A NIKON SAMARAI TOO!!

Do I have to pass a test? I'm tough! I've never thrown a throwing star before but my FM2N would hurt if I through it at you!

Congrats on the new camera my friend! That's quite a zoom! ED?

DONE! You are now officially Nikon Samurai #4!!!!!

Martial arts training is not required, but it is a bonus. ;-)

And you are quite correct; your FM2N would hurt if you threw it at someone!

I definitely like the zoom range on the 5700. ED? Two ED glass elements! Fast too, f2.8 to 4.2! I am going to be loving life once I get this sucker set up. I didn't have time to play with it last night, but I've been setting it up this morning. Still playing with it.

I'm pulling a Seb here. I'm giving myself a crash course in how to use it so I can take it with me this weekend to the mountains! :-)

Not to worry though, I've got seven rolls of slide film and two film bodies to shoot with. But the 5700 should be fun for some candids, and an occasional landscape photo - just to wring it out properly. ;-)

But I told you, "I'll be back", he said in a poor Arnold impersonation. :-O

I did mention that Myrtle Beach is only 2 & 1/2 hours from my house didn't I? So if you get down there, let me know! You mentioned you may be going there later this year.

Hey, maybe we should have a Myrtle Beach gathering. Do it in the off season, when rooms are cheap. Something to think about...

My life is now done. I have become Nikon Samarai #4.

- bows to the east -

I'm glad you didn't say I had to kill someone to gain entry into this group cuz I don't wanna get my Nikon all dirty. Ew.

Hey enjoy that new camera this weekend! That's great, 2 ED elements and 2.8 at the 35mm end. And it goes out to 250mm...

Hm. How much do you say that camera was again? ;)

I don't know who he is but I'm sure he's very old and wise or dead.

Must've taken an AE-1 to the head in battle.

I am PROUD to enter the ranks of such elite as Speed, you, and... hey who's Samarai #2? Did we skip one?

Ah-so.

Although I'm supposed to be getting a Canon 1D-MarkII (if they ever ship to the U.S.), I will always keep my Nikon 5700. It has been a loyal and faithful little champion. I will mail you some prints using my Epson 2200 that were taken with my 5700 and you can see how amazing the 13X19 prints look. I think you'll be impressed.

Congratulations to you again. And, don't make us wait too long to see some of your awesome photography.

My Best to You,
Penny

I started taking photo's with the 5700 yesterday. I've got to get our IT guy to load the software onto my computer - we're on a network and can't load things onto them ourselves.

It is an interesting little camera and I'm looking forward to learning more about how to use it. I'll be sure to post some photo's soon.

I'm looking forward to seeing those prints. Thanks a lot for going to the trouble for me. I appreciate it very much. Have a great day.
