    First Snow

We had our first snow in Salt Lake City, last week. It didn't come down as low as my house. But it came down to the base of the canyons, at about 5000 feet. I went out and shot the day it snowed and the day after and I'm pretty much overjoyed at what I got. The low, early snow meant that there was still fall color down low and the combination of red maples and snow is a huge score for me. Looks like it snowed again in the mountains last night, so I guess I'm going to be busy taking advantage of these photo conditions while they last

These photos were all taken with the Olympus E-620 and 70-300mm lens (140-600mm equivalent). I picked up the new Canon EOS 7D last week, so I'll be shooting with that this week. Unfortunately, I don't have a Canon lens with the reach of the Olympus Zuiko Digital 70-300mm. That lens is one of my favorite things about the Olympus Four Thirds system.

Lovely photos and I love the close up of the leaves.

    I am green with envy.

Awesome. I love the 2nd and last shots particularly. The second looks as if you shot through a frosted glass window.Very textured.
The 3rd I would just like a hint of stronger contrast. . .sorry, you know I'm from the critique forum.

    Re: First Snow

We've had a little snow higher in our mountains and I'm going to try to find time to get some fresh snow shots this year, too.
I really like that second one but they are all nice.

Is this rather early for snow in your part of the world? Around here the temperatures seemed to suddenly drop about 10 days ago (after a rather warm summer). Perhaps a cold winter ahead of us..

Great shots, John. I too love the snow on the red leaves.

I must admit, I'm not enamored by the thoughts of snow ............ NO! not yet! I'm glad you're enjoying it, though.

At the moment I'm happy in NJ and the 60F weather and sun forecast.

Beautiful images, John. Hard to pick a favorite, but I really like #2.

Nice stuff John. Thanks for sharing, just as soon you didn't send snow our way for several more weeks though.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Early Snow?

A bit early, yes. Maybe. The weather is sort of unpredictable here, due to the desert, mountains and the Great Salt Lake. The mountains go 6000+ feet (1800 m) straight up out of the desert. But this is an early and persistent cold spell. It looks like the snow is even going to stick in the mountains. I can't say I was really ready for it. I love winter. But I wanted to ride my bike some more and this in-between season is a little awkward.

Not complaining about the photo opportunity, though!

Probably just that, an in between season. More bike, more pictures
