I'm looking for a piece of equipment...
Something like the SnapDisk which is a device thatwill burn a CD from a compact flash card.. Does anyone here know of something similar? How about a portable hard drive that will automatically DL the images from a card w/o using a computer?

I need to find something before my trip to Utah and I would really appreciate any suggestions y'all might have!

I have a Sima Imagebank that works great. It is a stand alone hard drive that is battery operated and has card slots for smartcards and compactflash. Turn it on, insert my CF and it copies the pics off the card in a few minutes and places them in a new folder on the Imagebank. You then erase the card in the camera. There is a usb cable to connect to the computer and it appears as a hardrive on the computer so I can move files where ever I want easily.

When travelling I usually use a couple CF cards during the day and download to the Sima at night but I usually carry it along in the sidepocket of the pack I use on the motorcyle incase I take a whole lot of pics during the day. The 3 gig hardrive allows me to take a LOT of photos on a vacation.

Thanks everyone for your input!!

Chunk - I looked for the Sima ImageBank, but it has been discontinued and B&H didn't have any in stock.

I ended up going with the ImageTank instead.

You guys never let me down! Thanks again!!!

Hi Scooter
This product looks great, but it would appear to only support Windows based computers and I use a Mac so it doesn't fit my needs. :(

I appreciate you taking the time to make the suggestion though!

Fantastic idea Paul...
I went straight over to the closest Pawn Shop and the didn't have any laptops. I called around to a few others and they were out as well.

I'll keep this suggestion in mind for sure!

I just cancelled my order for the ImageTank and ordered up the Belkin Media Reader for my iPod. It saved me close to $250 by going this route and it adds features to something I already own and was planning on taking anyway!

I'll let y'all know how it works.

Brian,

Hate to rain on your parade, but I've been reading reports of how slow and flaky the iPod reader is. I suggest you look deeper into it, I read these comments on sportsshooter.com. I would hate to see you get seomthing and it not work for you.

No matter what, the best thing to do down the road is to get a laptop. Keep calling those pawn shops! :D

There's nothing like bursting...
Someone else's bubble! j/k

I read the thread on the site you mentioned in your reply and I'm OK with the slow transfer speed from the reader to the iPod. I have two 1GB cards so I can shoot with one while DLing the other or I can do it at night or while on the road from one location to the other. I can't do anything with the images until I get home from the trip anyway so honestly, the speed doesn't matter.

Plus, this is a short term fix since I'll eventually pick up a new laptop. I just can't afford one right now with the expense of the Utah vacation as well as the cost of the D100 last month.

Thanks for your concern and for opening my eyes to something that might have frustrated me had I not been fore warned. As always Seb, I appreciate your input!
