    Talking It's Here...

My D300 is home, wrapped up in Christmas paper, waiting for me to open it on Christmas morning.

I tried to convince the lovely Dawn that I really should do a function test, just to verify that everything worked properly. After all, she wouldn't want me to open it on Christmas morning only to find it didn't work.

    She didn't go for it...

But it's here, waiting for my personal touch to make it do it's thing.

    Oh, that's COLD buddy!

Fortunately for me, your fiendish plot failed, and my D300 is safely and lovingly wrapped up in Christmas paper waiting for Christmas morning.

    Better luck next time.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas my friend!

    Indeed it is!

But I wasn't expecting to get a D300 until sometime next summer, so I'm way ahead of the power curve. That's the only thing that keeps me from going crazy wanting it RIGHT NOW!

    Re: It's Here...

One little suggestion Robert. Even if the lovely Dawn is playing hardball with the D300 make sure and have a battery charged and waiting for it on Christmas morning. Don't waste two hours waiting for the battery to come up to speed. If you don't have a battery and charger that works with the D300 convince Dawn to unwrap it and pull them out and get it on the charger before Christmas.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Not a problem! I'm ahead of you here buddy.

The D300 takes the same battery as the D200, and I have four batteries for it.
On Christmas morning, I will put a freshly charged battery, a Lexar 4 gig, 300X CF card in it, and a lens on the body. I will be shooting about one minute after I open it!

But thank you so much for the suggestion. That was really insightful of you to think of that, and I appreciate you passing it on to me my friend!

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas as well, though I guess Christmas came early for you this year. ;-)

Wow, you have quite the patience!

If it was me, I'd be thinking of all those wonderful once-in-a-lifetime-glad-I-shot-it-with-this-brand-new-camera moments that will pass you by between now and Christmas.

And if it was me, I'd start using it now and rewrap the box with your old camera inside for weight.

If you get caught, you can always justify it by saying you wanted to use the new camera to shoot holiday portraits to send with your cards.

It actually is in this case!

I have wanted a D300 for some time now. I was saving my money for one and thought it would be next summer or fall before I could get it. So waiting until Christmas isn't nearly as bad as it would ordinarily be.

But my baby has made another wish come true for me. I am a blessed man!

Oh yeah, and chocolate is never a bad thing!

Don't you believe it! It is not a matter of patience at all. I have been saving up for this camera for months now. I figured it would be next summer or even the fall before I had the money to buy one. So getting it for Christmas is actually WAY earlier than I was expecting to get it.

And you are right, I drive home past some fishing boats every day. I've stopped one evening to take some sunset shots. But this time of year, the sun has already set when I get there, and I can't help but think "I could take this shot with a D300".

As for replacing it with my D200 in the box, my lovely wife is much too smart to fall for that! She claims she can't even figure out how to turn my camera on, but I guarantee you, she would notice in a second if I was shooting with the D300. She's a clever lady. She is incredibly sexy, but she's got brains to boot! Have I mentioned that I am a blessed man?

You are a lucky man Robert. Dawn is a special lady. I can imagine how hard it is to be patient. It's cool that you're getting it well before you expected to.

I read your comparison between the D200 and the D300 and got a kick out of your comments and the reason you'd really like to have it. I'm still shooting with my old Canon 1D mk1. The only reason I would like to upgrade is for the low light capability of the newer cameras.

Sounds like you're going to have a great Christmas, present-wise. I'm looking forward to seeing some of those low-light photos soon after you get it!

    And I know it!

Dawn is a very special lady! She is sexy, she is intelligent, and she spoils me! Everyone envies me, and for good reason. ;-)

As for my comparisons, well, some things are more important than others. I wasn't looking to upgrade my D200 until I read and saw what the D300 could do in low light. THAT makes it worth upgrading. All the other upgrades are just the icing on the cake...
