    Rex...

He's making his debut in front of the camera.

In all honesty, I was just playing with the new SB-800 I picked up this afternoon and thought I'd take a few shots of our pet rat.

What other rodents do y'all have as pets? I know Speed has a hamster.. Anyone else have anything? If so, bring 'em on!

You've gotten your flash exposure down pat pretty quickly, as these are all well-exposed, no hint of flash shadow, and very few bright spots. Hey, I was bitten by a spider a month ago...maybe it's in my apartment. Does that count as a pet? Nice work.

I don't have a rodent... but I do have 3 kids, a dog, a cat, and three really cool leopard geckos!

We had a mouse in our basement once
We had taken off the windows to clean them and put in new window wells, and had left one off over night. Next morning, there it is, scurrying around in our basement.

I was too busy screaming to take any pictures, though.

    Does that still count?

Last night I was really experiencing the benefits of digital. Never before have I been able to just experiment (in this instance with a new flash) and immediately see the results.

I was bouncing the flash off walls, using different angles and bouncing it off the ceiling, with difuser, w/o difuser.. It was great!! Only thing I couldn't get to work was using the SB-800 as a slave. I just couldn't get the darn thing to fire.

Any way, thanks for you comments and since you are (in a sense) feeding your spider, I would think that makes it your pet. :p

    Your place...
    Sounds a lot like mine..

My list of pets goes something like this..

1 dog, 1 cat, 1 rat, 1 bearded dragon (used to be 6), and 2 kids.

The good thing is that I've scaled down in the pet department. I've found that the more you feed kids, the more they grow. The more they grow, the more they want to eat.. The more they eat, the less money I have to feed the rest of the farm... ;)

The moral of the story.. Don't feed the kids and they won't grow very big! j/k

Thanks for sharing your gecko. They have always been one of my favorite lizards. I used to have a breeding pair of Madagascar day geckos. Beautiful little buggers they were.

    Have a great day!

    Rex the rat
He's pretty cute....for a rat! :) Your photos of Rex turned out quite well. We have 2 pet rabbits, which are lagomorphs, not rodents. Since I'm at work, I don't have any pictures of them to post though.

    How cute!
Well, he/she is really cute. But I wouldn't want one......are they friendly? Do they play? Can you pet them? You did a great job - very sharp pics. I'm sure he/she is much faster than Molly, and I have difficulty chasing her around to get her to sit still for a split second.

I enjoyed viewing these - post some more.

    Well, then I guess...
You'll just have to post a couple shots when you get home then!<p>

I look forward to seeing your lagomorphs!

    Afternoon Liz,

Rex is a male and he is very friendly. I would almost go so far as to say that he just might be the most social member of my family and that says a lot since all my other pets are extrmemely out going. He loves to be pet and he's always begging for attention when someone passes within eye sight of his cage. Rats are extremely intellegent and can even be trained to do tricks just like a dog.

As for being fast.. Yeah he is, especially when he's somewhere new.. He scurries about inspecting his new surroundings, looking for hiding places, or more likeey, hidden stashes of food!

Thanks for your comments and questions. Be sure to show us more of your little Molly.

Rex is pretty cute. I had a mouse that I saved from a snake feeding named "The Cuteness", but he was too small and he only survived for about a week... at least it was a week of non snake eating... *smile* After that I got another mouse and his name was Phillipe and he even traveled with me from St. Louis to my parents' house in PA and down to see the family in Maryland. Unfortunately he died too...
Now I just have a cat... an evil cat, who I am sure will never die... the evil ones never do... *smile*

These are great shots, despite the fact that they're of a rat! :) Wonderful exposure, good work.

Here are the pea-brains, as requested. :)

Pixel is watching out for danger, as usual. And Jasper is in motion.

Pixel and Jasper are adoreable. I especially like the one of Jasper. You timed that shot perfectly.

    Thanks for playing!

    golden girl...
This is my year old retriever Ceilidh (pronounced Kayleigh). She the most cheeky pet I've ever had the pleasure of sharing my home with. Unlike your Rex photos, I haven't yet mastered the flash situation, but as this is one of my first with my new D70 (on auto - can't wait to see what it can do when I work out the manual settings - never used Digi SLR before) I'm pretty impressed so far. I love the way that she seems to be winking at me in this photo...

    She's a cutie!
Keep playing with that D70. The freedom digital offers for experimentation is incredible. And you get to see the results instantly to boot thus allowing you to make adjustments and reshoot! Who could ask for anything more?

    Thanks for playing!

I appreciate your comments, and Rex didn't mind you calling him a rat in such an insulting way.. LOLOL ;)

If memory serves me correctly, you live in Southern CA, don't you? Are you at all interested in going to the Yosemite gathering over Memorial Day weekend?

    Let me know.

    The evil ones never do!!

My boys have had a couple mice as pets in their time. They make pretty good little pets as well. Much better than hamsters! Now it's time for you to show off the Evil One.

Thanks for your comments and for your story. It's always good to learn more about our PR.com family!
