I received a job offer today!!!
I just wanted to share my excitement with my friends here. I've been job searching since January 1st and have been through numerous interviews and what not. Today I got my first offer and I'm going to be calling them back tomorrow to accept it.

This represents the next beginning in an important chapter of my life. As many of you know, I left California, and my job in Cali, to seek other opportunities. It was a very tough thing to do as I was very "safe" in California.

The only thing I need to decide now is if I want that $300 bottle of single malt 25yr Macallen or not! I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy it :) It's either that or maybe an XBox :D I have the biggest hole burning in my pocket because I've been penny pinching since November.

That's great!! Been awhile since I've had to go thru that (knock on wood) but I know it's a lot of work in itself. Let us know when you crack that bottle - PR Gathering in Gurnee? ;)

Clearly, none of you have tried that particular bottle of scotch!!

Seriously, thanks for the support. It's been a long time since I've smiled and a lot of pressure is off my shoulders finally.

another view, I'll gladly pour you a glass next time we meet (if it's not all gone beforehand :D )

Congratulations! I should've known you were a Scotch drinker. I'm still partial to the Laphroaig myself. I've an 18 year old Macallan that about two thirds gone. It's a grand drop.

    -Best wishes

Great news!! I am very happy for you. Some times when you get out on that limb the ground looks awfully hard below you untill you figure out that the limb is going to hold and everything is looking bright and clear from your new position above the ground.

Those guys that are voting for the X Box have never tasted good Scotch, GO FOR IT. Wish I could be there to enjoy it with you, one of lifes true little pleasures.

My vote's for Scotch! Video games are over-rated!

Congrats on the job! What will you be doing? And does this mean you are taking us all out next time we are in Chicago?

I knew there'd be some Scotch drinkers lurking out there. Let yourselves be heard! The job position is for a Software Quality Assurance Engineer. This was a prior job in my last company before they changed my job for me to more of a specialized IT support role (I wasn't happy with that).

This job pays about 16.5% less than my last job but I'm confident that I can quickly work myself up to that point again. They hired me because they want a strong technical QA person to come up with the automation strategy for the load testing of their software. I'll be doing the automation development work as well. I'll also be responsible for helping test the software and continuous process improvement activities within the software development lifecycle.

That should make sense to some of you :)

The company is a small payroll company (in my job seeking I've been looking only for small companies because I think I'll like that more than huge corporations like my last job).

I don't post much, though I know I should! I will get some critiques out there...

but i have to vote for the scotch. I have an xbox, do I use it? nah. I have had great scotch, I want more great scotch, a 25yr Macallan, is a great scotch... Though I might vote for the 30yr Laphraoig...

go for the scoth, like someone else said, the xbox will rot your brain, the scotch will only rot your liver! I can get a liver transplant. :)

After reading that, I would go with the scotch, and I don't even drink...

    Congratulations once again!

    Congrats Trevor.

It must have been a tough decision just packing up and leaving your original city & job. . I myself would love to change scenery and get out of North America & maybe work in Europe, I'm just too scared to actually do something like that.

I'm glad it worked out for you and the best of luck.

Hey Trevor, Congrats! I'll be at your house tomorrow night, 9 pm sharp. Have the scotch waiting. ;)

j/k of course, you've never told me where you live. ;D

And I actually understood what you were saying, mostly. My husband is a software engineer and owns a software company, and my brother is a programmer in Chicago.

I assume you'll be working on the Windoze platform. Do you know Mac?

Anyway, congrats again and I'm so happy everything is turning out well for you!

    Congratulations!!!!
It's been a while since I've been between jobs but I always remember what a #@$%$&%* relief it was to finally find a place of resource renewal. And I remember always wanting to celebrate with buying a toy for photography or video games for the computer or the Nintendo. So my advice:

The Macallen. Definitely. Neat, in a bell glass or a brandy snifter, warmed gently while rolling the glass between the palms of both hands. ;) But the Xbox is way more fun and probably will last longer.

Way to go Trevor. I've been downsized twice in the last 30 years and it isn't a fun at all. I hope that the new gig is what you want out of this new part of your life. I would go for the Xbox. It can be the cause of much happiness and frustration, just like a relationship or a good bottle, but doesn't have as many consequences. (By the way, great choice, I remember that stuff)
