Talking I Got My Father's Day Present

Picked it up yesterday afternoon, and drove it home.

    A 2002 Suzuki Intruder VS800. 805cc's of fun.

The lovely wife suggested I get another motorcycle when the boy got his license, nearly two years ago. As you can tell, I haven't been in a hurry. Actually, I just hadn't found anything I liked, and I hadn't looked real hard either. When my buddy got a Harley V-Rod, I decided to start looking a little more seriously.

With the boy working, and running the road with his friends, Dawn and I have been sharing one car. Been a pain for her to get up and take me to work on her days off. (She works Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and half a day on most Saturday's.) Now she can sleep in. Also, when she's working on Saturday mornings, I won't be stuck at home without wheels.

The best part is, I knew the guy selling the bike, and he's the only owner. Check out the last photo and see if you're as stunned as we were.

Please pardon the quality of the photo's. They are quick grab shots so I could share the news with my PR family.

    Thanks Brian.

This is my third bike. I bought a 1982 Yamaha Maxim 750 in 1986. Kept it until I had a couple of kids, then sold it about 1990. I just wasn't riding it that much.

Got my second bike, a Honda V45 Magna (also a 1982 model and also a 750) in 1996. Kept that one a coule of years, then sold it to my brother. He needed wheels, and didn't have the bucks to buy a car (he had just moved back to the county) so I sold it to him and let him pay me $50 a week. I'm such a softy.

Now I'll be riding the Intruder, and in the little I've ridden it so far, I really like it.

Hope you have as happy a fathers day as I've had!

2100 miles in three years? Might as well sell it - he won't even know it's gone!

Looks like fun - always wanted a bike but I don't have the slightest idea when I'd have time to ride it. Too many other hobbies. It's this "job" thing, it takes up way too much time.

It does indeed take up way too much time!

I was stunned to see it only had 2117 miles on it. He didn't ride it much, that's for sure. I'm guessing that job thing got in his way as well. ;-)

Congrats Speed. Now ride it up to Stecoah and stay with my friends Fred and Mo at the Kickstand Lodge. Tell 'em Chunk sent ya. (www.kickstandlodge.com) Some of the greatest roads in the country up there.

Have you taken the MSF course? If not, I highly recommend it, even for experienced riders.

    Ahh, Speed!
    Nice bike.
Is the stepped seat a prb for you or Dawn?
Been shopping for 10 years. Cars almost paid off.
Rode a magna v65 once, hit 55 mph and second gear at the same time, (2 blocks, small blocks at that) very gently rode it back to its owner and said no thank you!
    Happy Fathers day,
    Mark.

Nice, Speed, very nice. Now you just need a vanity plate that reads speed or something along those lines for the bike.

That has always been my favorite bike! I loved my V45, and I always dreamed of having a V65. Incredible machine. And insanely overpowered too! I love the power and acceleration of a motorcycle, but I do NOT ride at high speeds. Whatever the speed limit is, I'm within 5 mph of it. I have no desire to ever see triple digits on the speedometer. Speed kills, especially on motorcycles.

But the acceleration....I love leaving Mustang's and Camero's behind coming off the line. And that's without goosing the throttle! :-D And hills and curves are a blast on a motorcycle.

Dawn rode it for the first time this morning. I drove her to work, dropped her off, then I went to work. She broke her thumb on Saturday, so I think it may have been sensitive to all the bumps along the way, but she didn't complain. We're looking forward to getting in some rides with some friends of ours in the coming weeks.

    Thanks for the comments buddy.

For the most part, I'll grant you that is a true statement.

But there is a doctor here in our county, whose wife is also a doctor, and they have eleven, yes, eleven (11) motorcycles in their garage. You can't mess with people with money. ;-)

Then again, with 11 bikes, they may be considered collectors. :-O

Shoulda went with a nice FATBOY or SOFTTAIL CUSTOM ;)

My first street bike was a HURRICANE 1000 back in 91, then came the FJ1100, sportster, heritage softtail..... Riding in NJ is beyond scary to me though, so I went to 4 wheels completely ! Too many BMW drivers on cellphones doing make up or reading the paper here

Nice bike none the less ;) GREAT F'in gift too , but you need a brain bucket now ;)

    I ride with a full facial helmet! I always like the analogy: "If you've got a $10 head, get a $10 helmet. If you've got a $100 head, get a $100 helmet."

I expanded that one to: "If you have half a brain, get half a helmet. If you have three-quarters of a brain, get a three-quarter helmet. If you've got a brain, get a full facial." I may not be the best looking guy around, but I do like my looks, and I definitely don't want to mar them in any way!

Harley's are real expensive toys. Too rich for my blood.

I rode a Harley for the first time last night. I went to help my buddy do some repairs on his boat trailer, then we went for a ride. A few miles down the road he pulled over and we traded bikes. I rode his V-Rod for about 10 miles or so and he rode my Suzuki, then we pulled over and switched back. Interesting ride. It takes some getting used to, but it rides very nice. Didn't give me a hankering to get one though. ;-)

Yes a harley davidson is costly, but they are nice too.

I don't want to ride anymore to be honest with you, but look out if I get on a rice rocket ;)

Hey Chunk, every time I go to the mountains, I think about how great it would be to ride a motorcycle up there. Unfortunately, it's about a 10 hour drive up there, which I am not up to...yet. I took a look at there site, and it defiinitely looks like a nice place to stay. If I ever get up there, I'll be sure to tell them you sent me!
