i am back
so my first deluge into this site really created more confusion than it gave answers....i.e.-nikons are cool and real men buy professional camera equipment (which by the way i might if my spending was not monitored by a wife, i mean i spent 5k on my last bike, pre marriage of course, but was limited to like 600 for a camera) please though realize I am no wussy!
anyhow let me get back to my question/point. my g6 seems knda complicated, not as easy or "point and shoot" as i thought, is it meant to be like this? Does this camera take more thought even in auto mode than my last disposable did?
also where do real camera cool people shop? i went to ritz camera and it sucked, kinda like supergo of the bike world. i want to keep it real and i need guidance!

Camera shops
Most of us probably either shop on-line or go to a smaller, friendlier/more knowledgeable place than Ritz. Ritz is where people go when they want to spend more money for less camera, and get kibutzed by a half wit salesperson. OK, it's not really that awful, but close. B&H is a good place for a large camera store, but try to find a good small local pro shop. Most sales people in a good shop will be fair and honest and want to help you meet your photographic needs within your budget. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of those around. But don't abuse the small guys by getting advice and help, then buy online after. That's just not cool. If the prices are close (say within 5-10 percent), I'll buy from the small business guy for his help and support the small businesses. I shop B&H pretty exclusively since there are no small pro shops nearby, unlike when I lived in Southern California 3 yrs ago. There are cheaper places than B&H, but I'm loyal to them because their service has always been exemplary for me. I'm a firm believer in supporting the shops that have great service, even if they are a tad more expensive than others.

Re: i am back
I like going to smaller stores
Everyone who works where I go is a professional photographer. But because jobs are never that steady with photography, they also have retail on the side. These fellas have tons of experience and give real advice. Plus the place I go to has reasonable prices for the most part.
