    Hobby or Job

    hi everyone,
i was wondering how many members take pictures for a living and how many do it as a hobby/on the side (small jobs for friends or in the community...)

For me, it's just a hobby right now. Maybe later on I may make some money off of my photos (and maybe get published!!), but until then....

Even though I chose hobby, in truth i see it as so much more. Imaging is life for me. I have hobbies, but imaging is my passion. Like air, or water. I would die without it.

Is that your new self portrait in your avatar? Seriously, I thought you were much younger.

I chose hobby but I'm with Almo. It's my way of practicing mindful meditation. It keeps me from letting the world just pass me by. When I find myself stressed, it's what makes me slow down, deep breath, and look at something beyond my stressor. It is an integral part to my existence as well.

I need an "Hobby that I get paid for" option.

    Re: Hobby or Job

I finally did vote on this thing. I was hoping for "hobby that pays" option, but it never did get here. It is most definitely a hobby as of right now since I could not survive on what I make from it. But, my goal is for it to become a career and my only job. Not sure if that will happen, though.

    Re: Hobby or Job

I like a good amount of others here, I started out with photography as a hobby, and while I was trying to decide what to study in college I looked at hobbies that I have and realized the only one I could make money on without joining a pro soccer or hockey league, or becoming a pro mountain biker was photography. Now while going to school I work for an online store taking product photos for them to go on the web, and taking as many pictures outside of school/work to get better & better.
