    History in the making...

I had the opportunity to shoot history a couple of weeks ago. The USAF Thunderbirds are flying with the first female demonstration pilot ever (in the US). She's Captain Nicole Malachowski, who has been flying fighters for the Air Force for over 8 years. She's flying right wing as Thunderbird 3.

With any luck, this photo or one of several others I submitted will be published in World Airshow News in the May issue!

Here she is meeting the crowd at the Ft. Smith Regional Airshow after Sundays performance:

I know this isn't the critique forum, but can I make a suggestion? I think a tighter crop would make a big difference. Just scroll down so that only a sliver of sky shows above the tail of the plane and see what you think. It focuses the veiwer's attention on the pilot much better and makes the photo much stronger.

Good suggestion. I took a variety of shots, tightly zoomed in and back out like this. I like the way the crowd leads my eyes to her. Your suggestion enhances that. Thanks PJ. I'm always trying to improve and the only way to do that is to be able to withstand a critique and suggestions!

Women pilots? Bah! What's next? Women in the workplace? This country is getting WAY too liberal for my blood. Next thing you know there will be female nuns.

    Time to move to Afghanistan.

JOKE people, put down the torches... ;)

Good for you Troy! Hopefully they'll pick up your images.

A women who can fly one of those things, they come with bombs, guns, and all kinds of fun stuff! What a date! Oh, you might have to call her ma'am all the time, but GeeWhiz, what fun!

We have digressed horribly, PJ has a good suggestion about the image. Let us know if they get picked up for publication.

Actually, flying a fighter jet and dropping bombs really would be the greatest date ever.

That she's up to the task! That's a very demanding job for anyone, male or female.

Nice shot of her. The shot makes it looks like she is the center of attention.
