Best place to buy big glass?

    BH Photo?
The putty colored lens I want is backordered.
    Are they hard to get?
I was going to get one from the little camera shop but they do not call me back when after I have gone in there 2 times asking about a 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor lens.

You think they would bend over backwards to get one for me.

    What about Adorama?

Re: Best place to buy big glass?

you really want the light grey colored version that is $180 more(no $150 rebate on the grey model)?

The LIGHT GREY version of any NIKKOR lens is SPECIAL ORDER by the dealer and the 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor is back ordered from NIKON USA so it seems(since a few sites say they are still waiting for the overdue arrival of said lens)

Adorama doesn't list the light grey on their site and doesn't say whether they BLACK model is INSTOCK from what I can find. CALL ADORAMA and B&H and see what they have to say .

BTW.... A friend CALLED ADORAMA about a pair of TOP OF THE LINE binoculars and said" what is the best price you can give me" .....they had PLENTY in stock and the price was not what the site listed ;)

ADORAMA has better prices on a few items too( birding related, not photo related)

    Grey vs. black

If I have the camera is outside and it is sitting in the sun while I am shooting isn't the grey lens better. I heard they made grey lenses so they do not attract heat to your exspensive glass.

Is this why they do it?

    Re: Grey vs. black

True black will obsorb more heat, while the light grey will stay cooler in theory. but my black lenses(and PLENTY other people's) have made it through many a shoot in 100 plus degrees full sun

The grey lenses are cool looking indeed and if you are worried GET ONE FOR PEACE OF MIND.

    Have to admit

    they do look cool.

    Can only find in black.

BH Photo and Adorama do not have in stock.

I found a place called Beach Camera that has one (in black).
Seems like they have a good reputation and a good price.
Just placed an order. Cant wait! Post some pics here when I get it.

    I'll second that!

Also, I would highly recommend using a reputable site, such as B&H, Adorama, or KEH. Way too many fly by night photo stores out there.
