Smile Hi, I'm new to this digital world.

Well, that is right. I am new to the digital world, cameras at least. My first Canon was an EOS 630 (that dates me??) before that I had a variety of 35 mm cameras. The 630 was where I decided to get a little serious about photography. A few months ago, I bought a Digital Rebel XT and am quickly finding out that this is a whole new world. Fortunately, the technology side of this world doesn't bother me too much, having worked with computers for more years than I care to admit to. It is still going to take me 6 months, or more, to learn how to use all the features/functions of the new camera.

So far, I am quite happy with the XT. I am also happy that all my EF lenses and various other bits and pieces work more or less fairly well with the new camera. I can live with the 1.6 multiplier for my lenses focal length. My next reasonable purchase will have to be a printer (I am currently looking at the i9900 but am open to any insight anyone cares to provide).

I look forward to learning from this community and am glad to have become part of it.

Welcome aboard. I still haven't went digital yet. But I am sure your will learn alot in a little time here. There are some great photographers with lots of knowledge here. Maybe I will go digital one day but I am determined to get good with film first. Good luck with your digicam and post us plenty of pictures to look at.
Maybe you can look at some of my work and help me. I need all I can get.

Hi and welcome! Digital was new to all of us, probably not too long ago! Feel free to ask questions - see the Help and Canon forums.

I always have used Epson Printers, as that is what all the graphic artists I knew used and I have been very happy with the out put. Personally all the printers after my first printer have used pigmented ink. My current printer is a Epson R2400. Pigmented ink does not fade as fast as the dye based inks.

Re: Hi, I'm new to this digital world.

Welcome Western!!! The 630 was my first camera as well, or at least the one I learned photography on (in 1989). Going through the progression from the 630, 10s, A2, 1V, D30, D60, 10D, 1D, 1D Mk II, I've pretty much made the small transitions in learning features and controls on the EOS lineup. Going from the 630 to the Rebel XT is a big transition in control layout. Going from the 630 to the 1D is actually easier because the controls are more alike. You'll get used to the new camera pretty fast, probably much faster than it took to master the 630 (which ain't easy as I recall). Good luck, welcome aboard, and hey, post some pics :-)
