    Help portrait experience
I participated in this event on sunday

The idea is to take portraits , print them , and giving it away. The target of the event was mainly kids, with low income levels, who may not live with their families, who may not have their mental abilities at 100%.

The kid were fascinated by the installations of the big lights, the backdrops, the cameras, and mostly by the beautiful prints.

There was a significant effort to find a space, photographers, makeup, volunteers, t-shirts, badges, food, contacting target organizations, editing, printing , framing.

A fairly long day but worth the effort. No other photo experience I have participated in has given me this level of satisfaction. It was not about adding to my portfolio, providing photos to a customer, or collecting good comments/likes on line, it became about sharing our expertise and giving to those who do not have access to this kind of photography.

Great feeling when seeing the faces of the kids when they received their portraits. Some came with their parents who also loved the portraits.

Someone got a large HP inkjet printer, it was printing 5 photos (8"x6") at a time.
All photo sets were calibrated with the same light intensity, everyone used F/8 ISO 100 and .jpg, neutral settings, flash WB, so the editing was mainly cropping to 8x6 , end export at 100% 300 dpi.

Help Portrait is a great event! I've done one this year and aiming to do another on the 21st here in Milton. I deal with the most special people in this world, and give them a moment of joy.

I highly recommend it to anyone, no matter the skill level.

    Armando - and Alex.....

    Beautiful shot, Armando.

Alex - did you post about your experience at some time? I recall someone posting about it here quite a while ago, as I was very impressed. I'm going to check into it this time around.

Thanks Guys! Wonderful way to make kids and other people happy - make them feel special - because they are.

Yes I believe I did. Here's something I wrote up for 2011: Alex and the Help-Portrait Movement! | Film Photography Project
