I'm guessing that box isn't light.
I looked at the link and then tried to figure out how I'd use two clutch pedals. I know there's only one,(I hope), but it sure sounds complicated to me.

Yes, these are pretty big and heavy compressors. The local cell telephone repeater was even heavier. The chopper moved very deliberately with that one!
I'm not sure either about the intricacies of these transmissions, but who knows, maybe they are like a Model T. so that you do all the shifting with pedals if you desire???
They could be like the Renault/Citroen 'infinite' units that had bands of offset conical faced cylinders. . .
I'll dig up what I can.

Love the copter. . .built just for it's purpose, hauling heaving stuff. All rotor and engine, nothing else.

The transmission sounds to be very impressive. Doing away with the heavy power robbing torque converter is long overdue, I feel.

Not really the CDP building, a little large for my current needs. I could have a big party I suppose, but the taxes would kill me:idea:.
The transmission shifts like a conventional unit, not two pedals, but two control switches (in the transmission) to alternate the clutch takeup dependent upon gear selection.
This unit paired with TC elimination, and with the ZF style coil Transaxle or Differential will alone boost gas mileage by double digit percentage increase!
These helicopters are very impressive to watch work. I've shot them doing lifting and tower erection and materials delivery to name but a few things and they are also versatile. Fuel hogs, just look at the air intakes! Up close you can hear the cables sing on some loads! That is almost scary.

Why anyone is using power sapping hydraulic transmission I just don't understand.
Lightweight electrically operated clutch units, computer controlled, can much more efficiently replace the old fashioned transmissions.
I've been driving Smarts with Getrag electronic transmissions for the last 8 years !
