    Grand Canyon p&s

I am antsy to start posting slides of all the Arizona beauty I have taken in recently. But since Santa isn't hooking me up until December 25 I figured I'd post a teaser. Point & shoot of Grand Canyon in October from the tower on the south rim east of the village. Nikon 885. Not much post-processing. Imagine it in Velvia

What can I say but breathtaking, rick. With this image having almost a pastel palette to it, I can only imagine the colors it would have done on Velvia. It's almost like there is a haze in the far background rising up from the canyon.

Thanks, srobb. Remember that you're looking at the far end of the Canyon about a mile away! ;)

I just remembered that I didn't carry my film camera up into the tower so I guess we'll have to imagine it in Velvia! LOL

I have other shots of the Big Ditch as well as Sedona and Phoenix that are on slides which I'll post when I get dat scanner.

    Thanks for the comments.

    Rick,

    That's a very nice image, especially for a p&s.

So you're getting a scanner? What kind? I'm in the market too.

But rick, that's simply a good reason to make a return trip. ;) That is one of those things we learn the hard way. I learned this morning I will not be going anywhere without everything.

Ah yes, I remember it well. Except there was snow on the ground when I went there.

Gorgeous shot my friend. And I'm eagerly awaiting seeing the Velvia images!

    Re: Grand Canyon p&s

    Thanks guys.

Paul: I was originally looking at a dedicated film scanner until I realized that they are too expensive when you want to scan medium format. So I am looking at the Epson 4990 which gets great reviews, scans film up to 8x10 and is purported to be close in quality to a dedicated film scanner.

srobb: on that trip I did have everything. But even the Grand Canyon gets a little boring after a day or two of looking at it. So I didn't carry my FM2 up the tower that day. Like you say though, next time: Mamiya

Ken: I'm looking forward to working with your family! Awaiting their call.

Speed: I really want to be there when there's snow!

Mark: Don't know how excited I am about carrying an 8x10 on my back ;) My Mamiya is enough.

Thanks guys! I started a "National Parks Post" in the Nature forum with this shot. You should all go take a look and contribute.
