    Got a new lens...

Been busy between the Pathfinder scouts activities (camping!!!!) and work. Finally found some time for posting here. Haven't done much photography lately except for scout outings. This Thanksgiving we went to southern Cal to visit relatives and I put the new Canon 24-105 f4L IS to the test. My trusty but little used 28-70 f2.8L is in the shop for repairs (I dropped it along with my 1D mk II-camera is fine, but the lens snapped at the mounting base). I'm finding I like this lens a lot despite the slow f4 aperture. It's much more versatile than the 28-70, but seems a tad soft by comparison. I hardly touched my 70-200 f2.8L this weekend (gasp-this is the lens that usually takes 75% of my photos) because of the usable range of the new lens.
Some photos at the San Diego Maritime museum of the HMS Surprise and my son (who is a big fan of historic naval ships).

A few more from the museum and the 24-105 f4L. I put the IS to the test a little in the B-39 Soviet submarine behind the HMS Surprise. The USS Nimitz is seen through the sub's periscope. Shutter speeds down to 1/4s turned out reasonably useable.
