Got me a Canonet too!

I've been wondering about the Canonets for a while, and when I saw Shrackman's posts a few weeks ago it pushed me over the edge. After some careful ebay shoping, I found a QL-17 GIII that sounded too good to be true. It arrived last night, and I was surprised to find nothing wrong with it, except old gummy light seals (expected). This morning I went out and shot a roll of Fuji Superia Xtra 400. So far, I think this little thing is very cool. But, I'm not sure how accurate the meter is with the hearing aid battery I'm using. I compared it to my digital, and it seemed to be reading under what it should be, so I set the film speed at 200. Most shots look good, but there are some areas that where over exposed. I'll try it at the correct film speed next time and see which is better. Here are a few shots. Hope you like them.

Nice, Paul! Check out these batteries - they're a little expensive and don't last long in comparison to most of it's type but it's an exact match for the Canonet (minus the mercury, fortunately!). I gotta run some film thru mine again one of these days...

Canonets are awesome little cameras. The first time I ever saw one was in the movie Pecker, and I have wanted one ever since. Have fun with it!

The saturation of colors in the water lily flower shows just how nicely this camera captures color. You might wish to check out rangefinderforum.com as they have quite a lot of useful information on the Canonet there.

Thanks, AV. You definately should put some more film through yours. It's a fun camera. Being able to shoot at f16 handheld in relatively low light is nice.

I think I'll try one of those batteries. My local camera shop has them. A pack of 7 hearing aid batteries was the same price as one of those, so I figured it was worth a try.

Thanks Shrackman. I'm glad you like that photo. It's my favorite from the roll. I took a few other pictures of colorful things, just for the sake of getting some color in the shots. Composition on those wasn't good, but the colors came out great!

What kind of battery are you using? The ones I got are something-675, zinc-air, 1.4V, hearing aid batteries. I read somewhere they would work, and it seems very close, but I'll probably try AV's suggestion to see if it's better.
