    Pr Stock Photo Pool.
There are so many great images here, I was wondering if it would be practical to pool them and offer them as stock photos? Members willing of course.
    Has this been dsicussed before?

That would be an excellent idea, have another gallery that is just that, stock photos.

I'm not sure how to set something like that up, but when money changes hands, it can get complicated quick. I wouldn't want to keep track of it! :-O

Also, the size restrictions (640 pixels and less than 198 KB) means that they wouldn't be useable for most purposes (without a LOT more skill than I've got).

The basic concept is logical though. There are a ton of excellent images posted here, and it would seem like a stock agencies dream.

Who knows, PJ may make you a moderator for the stock image page one day. :-)

Good idea, but it would take someone out there really selling it. It's a very competitive business. I was a member of a co-op agency which really wanted to provide a better alternative for photographers to market stock, but it never really got off the ground - this was with some really good, experienced people running it. Very tough to compete with Getty/Corbis just based on the library of images they have. It's one-stop shopping for an art buyer, but the photographer doesn't get much for it. Then there's the whole royalty-free thing...

No, I'm not bitter. ;) It's a tough business but it could potentially be a nice way to supplement your income - probably not the only thing you'd do, seems like those days are over. Some people specialize in one particular subject and have a huge library of a fairly obsure subject, but do pretty well that way. There's tons of shots of sunsets, bald eagles etc out there already - what don't you see out there that could be used? That's the question... :)

    Mark,

I like the idea. Though I think it would take some work to create a reputation, if you acheived a decent reputation, it would work great. Definately like where all the photos are shown, and contact info to make the transaction.

It would be neat to see if any/many of them would sell.

My thougts were that occasionally most photographers get a "good one" and to create a seperate gallery area for them, not to make pr a photo agency, more of a co op.
If there were enough of a selection, advertising could be as easy as sending an e-mail with a hyperlink to photo agencies.
There would be plenty of headaces such as selecting photos, which would have to be perfect.
    Anyway its just a thought,
