give me your worst OR what I needed backup for

Okay. So these are friends of a friend type folks. They asked me if I'd shoot some engagement photos last October, and then asked if I'd do the wedding. Figuring I had a year to work my ass off getting prepared, I said okay.

First, anyone who does this on a regular basis is amazing. It is a physically and emotionally draining event. But the rewards were worth it. They were so grateful that I gave them my weekend, and were some of the nicest people I'd ever met. Bottle of wine when I got there as a thank you, and a condo at the resort so I didn't need to drive home (4 hours)

AND, to top it all off, the dj hit on me ALL night. I mean from the time he got there, to the time I said goodnight to the bride and groom and snuck out. And I didn't hide the fact that I was married with kids, I think he blocked it out.

So, lots of fun. Will I do it again...hmm....I think I need to recover before I answer that...:)

I did nothing but print wedding photos for about 3 years at a pro lab in Michigan. I have seen thousands of weddings. Hundreds of thousands of wedding photos. It is hard for me to even look at a wedding photo much less take the time to comment on one, but that is a very nice picture. I would almost say that it comes off as art to me.

If this photo is indicative of the rest of your wedding photos, they should have bought you the condo for payment! ;)

I agree with Almo. IMHO, this photo is a work of art. It's awesome. The composition is perfect. It has a "mystique" about it - but not enough to make it surreal. It's perfect for a wedding day. I love the fact that their are walking together "into the sun" as they begin their life together. There is so much about this photo that is significant for this couple. You not only did an excellent "job" here - but there is so much feeling in this photo. I could go on and on.

It is such a beautiful photograph. I think you should seriously think of publishing it - submit it to a wedding magazine, photo mag, whatever. :cool:

Your wedding pics are really top notch! You are quite an inspiration. Since I do not miss an opportunity to learn, I couldn't help but ask myself the question: how did she do it? ...

Mostly in terms of the exposure (my biggest problem usually!)

Can you give us any details??? Did you combine exposure? I couldn't help but notice a faint halo around the couple....

As far as metering, I had the camera set to evaluative metering, then shot one, adjusted about 1/2 stop either way. I just picked the one I liked the best.

That faint halo comes from photoshop:)

I have no experience of wedding photos, but I do know a good photo when I see one, and that's one good photo :)

I really like this shot, Adina. Nice work. I would desaturate the yellows just a tad, but this is just a personal opinion. Got any more you can show us?

Curious about the title of the thread. Thought I could share how I trashed a lens this morning shooting a rowing regatta. Well not trashed but need the front element replaced, and have an anniversary party I need it for this weekend. Had to buy another one for now and will probably get it fixed as a backup. Oh well... :(

Haven't heard that since...hmm...nevermind. :D

I love the shot of the woman with the camera dn the couple dancing(the grain is cool) I love grainy BW of weddings...it feels so timeless.

Nice job...looks liek the lighting was very subdued...MORE MORE MORE...more? ;) :D

Adina, The photograph of the couple is absolutely gorgeous. It has an artistic yet dreamy quality to it. I Love it.

Adina, every single one of these is professional and so different for wedding photos. They were luck to have you doing it. I'm sure the pressure of coming up with shots makes it difficult, but you definately rose to the occasion. A beautiful way for them to remember the happiest day of their lives.

Then converted/adjusted in ps. I didn't use the grain filter, but the fact that it could be considered digital noise instead of grain doesn't bother me in b&w. I don't like the noise in color though.

I think Hodgy got a shiver...that is a great engagement/wedding shot. Very grand and very beautiful.
