Thanks James,
This was shot with the Sigma 170-500mm with a Quantaray 2x TC. Settings were ISO 250, f/16 & 1/15 sec.

Re: Get Out Your Cameras and Telephoto Lenses
So that would put you around a 1000mm lens? Sweet.
Make me almost ashamed to post this small 300mm with a 2x TC ISO 100 f/5.6 1/125 sec.
The first image was right off the card
The Second one was fixed to my best abilities.

Yup, but I really loose a lot of image quality with my cheap TC. If you figure in the crop factor, I have the field of view equal to 1600mm on a 35mm film camera.

Re: Get Out Your Cameras and Telephoto Lenses
OK, I tried but this is the best I could do, a day late too. Used a 1.7x converter with a 70-200mm f2.8 both Nikon on a D300, using tripod and remote, 2 sec delay. f8 at 1/320s, ISO - LO.3.

Re: Get Out Your Cameras and Telephoto Lenses
Man, it wasn't looking good at all @ 5pm with a thick layer of cotton candy clouds, but the wind kicked up and cleared it out :)
Tamron 100-300 in macro mode (300mm) f/16 1/90 on the modo tripod w/ 2sec delay white-balance Daytime.
Cropped to 600x800, Unsharp Mask 1.5r / 56str. / 2clp.

Thanks for the heads-up on a starting point for the settings Speed, this one is a touch dark but the 1/125 was right on the numbers

Re: Get Out Your Cameras and Telephoto Lenses
I have some wicked bad clouds here, but I did get a couple of decent shots. Once I get the kids to bed then I'll load Adobe Photoshop and then load them up here.

Very nice, I like the clouds. I also tried by taking a few shots through trees for the branch effect, didn't work as nicely as I'd hope. S

I tried this as well, no luck w/ most, but I think this one turned out OK...

Lori, you probably don't need a BETTER lens, just a longer one :) The Tamron 70-300 I shot these with is probably the cheapest crappiest lens out there, as far as long zooms go, cost @ $100

Re: Get Out Your Cameras and Telephoto Lenses
Beautiful photos one and all!!
I had overcast and heavy clouds on the horizon both at moon rise and set:cryin:
And there was this perfect setting for silhouetteing against the moon.
Well, I'll try again soon!
