Gallery and the new 50 f1.8

As many of you know my children gave me a gift certificate to B&H for Fathers Day. I decided to spend it on a Nikkor 50 f1.8 so I could play with many of you in some of the threads based around the 50mm lens. I have not really given it much of a work out so Friday when I was going to a new gallery show I buckled it on the D200 and left everything else at home. Here are a few of the results, all available light inside the gallery.

Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Thanks for the look and the comment. The main reason for this little exercise was to see how the 50mm f1.8 Nikkor preformed. Overall I was very pleased. It seems to be sharp and does a great job in low light situations. I feel more confident now when a challenge is thrown down.

Nice! I'm watching out the winder for the UPS man with my 50mm f/1.8 from B&H right now. I wonder if he can sense my Jedi mind control thoughts that are telling him to come to my house next....

Wonderful shots OT!!! Seems the Nikon version does a great job too. Is it making you wonder why you didn't buy one a long time ago?

I sure did enjoy using it this weekend. I got some great photos of a couple of the grand kids. The biggest thing is it's so darn light. I felt like I was out with the old Pentax 35 years ago. I think it will get a lot of use. The 28-70 f2.8 has been my normal lens for some time now, but it's so darn heavy it very well may stay in the bag a lot more.

Welcome to the 50mm club, OT!! Great shots, and very characteristic of this lens.

Hey, I just may need to make a new logo for those who use the 50mm!

I think your pictures have convinced me to buy a 50mm 1.8.

Re: Gallery and the new 50 f1.8

I was a hold out on the 50mm for a long time. Maybe it was because I rarely used the 50 on my film cameras. I always opted for something shorter or longer back in my prime all the time days. I found the 50mm length on the digital to be very nice. I would compare it to the 85mm f2 that was a standard fixture on the film camera for portraits and everyday shooting.

    Very nice shots OT.

I'd love to know what settings you used. I need to play with my lens more. I haven't been very happy with the few test runs I've done.

Very interesting subjects.....a great place to test your new lens. I think this one is going to work for you. I have the 50mm/f1.4 and it's awesome. The colors are very close to "L" colors IMO.

I'm looking forward to seeing more. Yes, it is light.....one of the features I love about it. I'm keeping my 50mm and now have the 28mm/f1.8 - trying to live light these days.

The settings varied depending on where I was in the gallery JETA. I was shooting at ISO 400 and using center weight metering most of the time. I shot both in manual and in aperture priority. Most of the shots in the gallery were below 100th shutter speed.
