Ya know , I was going to say amethystine or scrub python too :) They were not known a scrub pythons in the 80's when I had one:) YES they leave nasty bite marks , as mine was a wild caught yearling ! She had to go due to her over aggressive nature and to make room for a huge indian python my friend needed to part with(16+ foot female who was like a lap dog!)

And you thought you hated having your picture taken! This female sea lion was hanging out on the beach the other day. I was taking a few pics of her and she was just lying there, not too interested in me. Then the director of our marine mammal rescue/care center showed up and gave a quick examination. She said she knew the sea lion and that she was looking better than the last time they met. She also used her phone/pda/camera/gadget to take a quick snap (which I in turn took this snap of), and the sea lion didn't like that at all. I personally wouldn't have gotten this close, but hey, I'm not the marine biologist.
I know how the sea lion felt, though. I don't like cameras being pointed at me, either! :D

I went out today to take wildlife shots, mostly birds and when I returned to where my car was parked I found a cardinal who wanted to fight itself in my sideview mirror. Picture was taken through the car windows so it's not the greatest quality.

Who won??did they fight all the way home? did you threaten to leave them there if they didn't stop immediately? :D :p :D

Actually Male birds on territory nearly always attack their own reflexions. I have seen robins and a few warblers do it and YES it is quite funny to watch!

The worst is when your shiny car gets attacked by a MALE TURKEY seeing it's reflexion! My friend's 3 day old acura was scratched front to back by one last year. Luck him it buffed out and the turkey tasted good he said ;)

I took this picture from outside the car through the windows. I did try and sneak around the car but the bird flew off. I walked about 50 feet away from the car and she came back for more. I was out walking at least an hour before I came back to my car, I wonder how long the battle was going on for. The thing that suprised me was that this is a female cardinal, I knew male birds were territorial.

Well, my non scientific explaination is this....

She must have been hurt by a few males, as she appears to not trust her present male with other females ;)

Also I said it was african, but i had forgotten which House I had seen it in. At our local zoo they have the herphouses separated by geographic regions, so i had mistakenly thought I'd seen this in africa, but it was central\south america.
